I was just wondering if it was worth getting a caravan & camping club membership I know you save money on some camp sights but I'm not sure how many times a year I will use it as I have a vw T25 and go to a few shows & will be taking the eriba to them.
How many people on here have a membership ???

Hi, I've been a member of one or another, both here in the UK (Caravan Club & at times C & CC) we seem to be quite happy to be told how to pitch an so forth, whereas my experience onthe continent is far different, I lived in Germany for 17 years and travelled extensivley, and I always had a warm welcome, I did not like some sites but that was down to my own personal dislikes.

There are many independant sites that easily match the facilities and outlooks of those clubs mentioned above.

If you need to stay on either of the two forementioned clubs for longer than about 10 days then it pays imho.

Saying that I am seriously co sidering leaving the Caravan Club as for me they are becoming a bit to Regimental, only my opinion

I'm undecided although I've been a CC member for three years. So far, I've only been on two of their sites and because of late opening dates have tended to use independents near York that have been just as good.

I remain a member because of the Red Pennant continental insurance package which has a very high reputation from those unfortunate enough to have had to make a claim.

Can't help thinking though that apart from the above, the CC is a waste of money.

Thanks for that I've stayed on a few caravan club sights in the vw & quite a lot of the don't seem to like us vw'ers but may be different in the caravan & really we never stay anywhere longer then 3 days really.
So is the caravan club different to the caravan & camping club not sure if I'm being a bit thick or not lmao

You have 2 major UK clubs both of whi h you mention, yes they are different but both have attributes. As for not liking VW I'm beginning to think that way about the CC and Eriba's

I do exactly what I'm asked when I'm asked on site but having been in the Caravan club for 20 odd years (more than that but they would'nt accept a non UK adress at the time

Sounds like there a bit anal to me I know they were in Wales when we stayed there & where very good & do as where told but like any one have a giggle & a good old drink thought that's what holidays where all about.
We could have gone for a bigger caravan but we love the eriba & the bigger caravans aren't as quirky & don't hold there price & I was very very lucky with ours payed next to nothing for it & didn't need any work.
On what your saying don't think I'll bother & save my money thanks for the help

I did a post on finding campsites for beginners to read which covers most of it.

Finding a campsite

The appeal of the clubs for me would be having access to the smaller CL or CS sites which are club affiliated, without club membership this huge resource of small sites is not accessible...........having said that I did not think it worth renewing my CC membership this year when there are loads of intendants to choose from without paying club fees.

We have always been with C&CC since our VW T2 days and never bothered with the other one.

We are in the C & CC, have been since we first started tenting. Nowadays we don't use Club sites much but keep our membership as it is the only way that the RAC Arrival breakdown cover will cover cars over 10 years old. Our Multipla is now 12 years old and has just done 2500 miles on the continent. Wouldn't want to be without breakdown for the car and the Eriba. There are a lot of sites much cheaper than the club sites and the attitude to pitching etc is far superior on the continent. Having said that the 5 van sites and the rallies are a cheaper way of camping in the UK. Each to their own, horses for courses.

We belong to both C&CC and CC. Camping club are less formal and we tend to use it more.
CC is good for small CL sites and we have just taken out their Mayday vehicle insurance, as RAC
too expensive and AA not comprehensive enough.
