Moving leisure battery

This is the first time we have had an Eriba with a leisure battery so I have bought a trickle charger and went to remove the battery for the winter today. However its far too heavy for me to lift! Do people use straps underneath or is there some other trick. Its not only the weight but the inaccessibility of the position too. Any advice welcome.

David, I've owned batteries with fold out/flap handles. If yours does not have these then the idea of a couple of straps is a good one. Can you make 4 wedges to tap underneath the battery and slide a couple of webbing straps underneath. I suppose a couple of trouser belts would do the job and you could then buckle them up and feed a broom handle through so two could try and lift instead of just you.

The Schaudt 3-stage intelligent charger fitted to your Troll is more than capable of maintaining the leisure battery over winter, and unless you keep the van on a storage site or can't connect the hook up cable at home then you could save yourself the trouble of lifting the battery out by charging in situ.

A day or two on charge every 3 or 4 weeks will be sufficient to keep the battery healthy.

Thanks John. Its on a storage site with no electricity and we live on a city street so no way to bring the van home.

Thank you. The broom handle is a great idea as I may be able to wedge it on something and level up. I didn't know that some batteries had fold out flaps so need to look for that too as they might be there. I just disconnected the battery, went to move it and then realised its weight!

The battery is usually bolted down so it does not move when being towed. Have you removed a couple of the floor clamps so that it can be slid to a more comfortable lift position?

Yes, done that bit and removed the electrical connections.
