Hello from Gemani. Leaking front window.

We recently bought a 1984 Eriba Triton. We have had continuous sunny weather until a few days ago when it started to rain heavily. We now discover that we have a massive leak from, it seems, above the front window. We believe that we may need to have the window removed and a new seal put in place. Can anyone suggest where we may get a seal?

Thanks

You don't give an area in your profile, you have a choice of

Many thanks to the member who promptly helped with instructions and pictures of how to replace a seal. I have emailed Jandi to see if they can supply the required seal.

Best wishes

If the leak is above the window then the area of water ingress may not be via the window rubber but through the back of the awning rail where it's sealed to the van.

Before you order the window rubber it will be worthwhile checking this first by removing the Herzim strip (the plastic beading that covers the awning rail screws) and checking the tightness of the screws.

If they need at least half a turn to nip them up then the sealant has degraded and shrunk.

The rail can be resealed by loosening the screws a little further and applying the sealant in the opened gap.

Many thanks. We are fairly sure that it is the window sea,l as we covered the suspected problem area with duct tape and waited for last night's downpour. No water in the caravan. We suspect that it has been leaking for a very long time as there is evidence of considerable water damage in the van. We shall do the other checks as you suggest before we invest in an awning.

Best wishes Gemani

I had a leaking window seal, the water appeared in the
rear r/h corner of the caravan so I thought it might be the
hight level brake light leaking or the rear window seal.
It was fixed under warranty and it turned out that the side
window seal was leaking and the water running along the
internal steel frame then reappearing through the corner
wallboard making it look as if the leak came from the brake
light or rear window. I bought a damp meter so that if I have
a similar problem I could perhaps work out the course the
leak was taking.

Thank you Crow. I thought having a boat was water trauma enough, but having a caravan seems as bad. However, with everyone's help, I think we can now get it sorted!

Many thanks

I think front window leaking may need windshield rubber seal strip to fix front window glass tightly in place for watertight.
You can find it online via ebay or amazon,if its dimension not for sure, may turn to local auto parts store to get it.It's a classic car rubber seals.
You can see the installation photo below:
