Is there an alternative to the original set up ie a wood pole across the two bunks? Can legs be fitted so one bed can be left out.?

I'm making a wild guess that you are talking about the individual long beds in a Troll 540. Am I correct as somebody out there might be able to advise.

Good job I read this properly.

It was about to go into the non-Eriba related section because I thought it was a medical condition.

It’s a puck. Instead of making up the double bed I just want one side out with back rest so I have to use the pole. Is it possible just to fit a leg at each end and what might I use?

Ah........ours is the Troll 540 that Colin refers to.

Not sure if your Puck is the same. Ours has a pull out wooden slat within each bed. This pulls out to half of the double bed space and each corner has a fold down metal leg. When these are down you can sleep on this side whilst still using the other side/part of the bed as a bench seat. The legs are strong and weight bearing.

Wonder if you could adapt something like these for your Puck?

Good luck

On my Puck the seat benches are identical and have a plywood base which forms the bed support. To convert to bed mode the seat is slid over the footwell. It still overlaps the window locker providing a full length support of one of the long edges. There is a batton between the 2 side lockers giving full width support for the rear edge. The 2 poles provide extra full width support at spaced intervals. The front edge has no support. Replacing the dowels will remove some of the support but not a lot.

Why not make two 'L' shaped (self standing) supports. You could screw a couple of lengths of wood together to form them or hing them together. They would only be 30 cm long so easy to store.

On our boat I needed to do something similiar to extend the make up bed. A neat solution is to make a couple of supports ( a simple rectangular frame would do) with a couple of threaded inserts. Insert screws through the baseboard into the frames and you are done (fairly collapse free). These are useful for all sorts of connections.

I've used these insert nuts that Steve mentions on our patio and they are ace. I wish I had known about them years ago.

I also used a couple of these to fit my fire extinguisher to a panel in the eriba. Ordinary screws just ripped out after the first trip. The nut inserts provide a much better fixing into mdf or lightweight ply, If fitting into the edge of a soft panel like mdf, putting a clamp either side of the hole whilst you fix it prevents the board opening up as you screw it in.
