Small dog or cat gate in an Eriba

Last year we made a metal mesh gate to fit inside the Eriba door to stop Mrs Cat from attempting to escape.

In our case we already had several 600mm square mesh panels that make up a dog pound, bought from the recycling shop for £2.00.

So I set to work cutting the width to fit the door opening and did nothing more than to join them in height by using cable ties. By forming two metal loops in the mesh and bolting a 6mm x 40mm nut and bolt into the loops, it made two gate pins.

Next was to get two small (brass?) gate bolt retainers and fix them to the side of the cabinet inside the Eriba door. Obviously we are restricted for height with these bolt retainers as the cabinet is only about 650 mm tall. Therefore the top of the gate is loose and relies on the two lower hinges. The door opens inwards and can stay in place behind the closed Eriba door. It's also very easy to lift it out and store it under the van.

The gate can be tied into position using a suitable fixing point and might even stop a larger dog trying its luck dependant on the strength of build.

We have used this method of keeping Mrs Cat safe on many occasions during this trip and it is proving a great success. If she wants to stay in the van while we sit outside it gives us all peace of mind. If we all wish to sit in the van but wish to keep the door open for fresh air and ventilation, again it is a God send. Being removable within seconds, if not in use, it stays under the van.
We are very pleased and are now looking at fixing some fly screen netting on it to complete the job. We do have a home designed fly screen which works well and will work with this gate in place but it might be worth experimenting.

I'd be interested to know from anyone who has an Eriba specific fly screen door has found it useful to keep dogs and cats safe or is it too flimsy?

Not an Eriba but it keeps the dogs in.

Can you imagine keeping a cat in with that?

You'd get plenty of exercise chasing it though.

Nice idea by Alan Jones here:- https://www.facebook.com/groups/eriba/po...04768886359513/

"Dog owners:
I have invented an easy lightweight doggy gate.
Buy (or scrounge from conservatory installer) a piece of double or triple wall polycarbonate.
Cut to size to be a tight fit from flyscreen slot to nearest cabinet. Tape all sides except one that goes in track and wedge against cabinet.
Can be adorned with changeable signs on velcro."

We only have the original mosquito net. We simply close it and it seems, until now, that our little greyhound does not bother

Coincidentally, yesterday on Eribafolk Facebook, someone mentioned that their dog ran through the closed mosquito net causing it a lot of damage.

We use one of those interlocking foam floor tiles which we had spare - fits perfectly and stops Ricky from destroying the fly screen.
