We've been long time admirers of the Eribas and keen caravaners having owned various 90s Lunars and Omegas to start student life and onwards. As we're a family with twins we need a 4 birth and living in the Highlands, with predominantly single track roads and tiny passing places, means anything modern, which seems to mainly be twin-axled or long, is a nighmare to tow around here. The Eriba's being light and small, and oozing with quirk, is beyond appealing in many ways, and an additional bunk could be purchased or made to turn a 3 birth Eriba into a 4 birth. So with our sights set on an Eriba we hunted for a few years but most have been outside of our budget and nearly all in Southern England.
We placed a few bids on various 3 birth Eriba Familia's but they kept getting scooped up in the last seconds.
We spotted an 1975 Eriba for sale on an Eriba social media group, a 3 birth and for sale in Scotland, what a luck! It was an Eriba Toinette, upon research a French edition of a Triton, and very interestingly with a bed designed lengths ways not width ways like the Familia's we'd looked at, which is ideal for myself at 6ft1. We quickly send a private message and with extreme luck we happened to be the 1st ones to show interest. The owners were very friendly and chatty and the caravan seemed in very good condition for the age, ready to use, perhaps with a few modernisation touches. Very excited at our new purchase we hitched her up to our Pickup truck and towed her back beyond easy.
Our excitement at this rather unique find perhaps clouded our judgement as it all seemed rather ideally suited to our family. Once home however the caravan quickly showed her age upon closer inspection. Many patches screwed/glued/bolted underneath held the floor together and we found various damp patches hidden behind/inside the furniture. A new floor would be required, and perhaps more was lurking behind the covers.
A bit of regret seeped in,.... however this did seem a rather unique caravan, and we felt if we didn’t rescue her she may have ended up in the scrapper with someone else. So the restoration begins!
