Whoopee! thought I; now we can plan a traditional Caldertrip to France in September.

The last time we took the van to France in September 2018, the Eurotunnel cost us in the region of £300. I have just priced an outward journey on 01 September and a return on 30 September and the total comes to a buttock-clenching £601. Bloody hell, in four years the cost has doubled. Add onto that the cost of vehicle and personal insurance and the cost of the whole venture looks to be prohibitive.

I haven't bothered checking any other crossings yet as I'm still in a state of shock.

I'm not sure if DFDS on the Newhaven - Dieppe route would suit you. Roger used it for his return this year and we planned to but have re-scheduled it for next year.
Availability showing you would probably need to shuffle dates but it would be more like £300 return. Add in that if you phone your booking, as an over 60 you can access a discount of 10, might be 20% that is not available for on-line bookings. I'm also guessing their screen would be more user friendly regarding shuffling options around on dates and crossing times.
