Our friends have had a serious scare. Gas was eminating from their caravan. Which Carbon monoxide and flammable gasses alarm from a piped or bottled gas supply is the best for our caravan? I am sure we all want to be safe at all times. Dafydd a Beryl

The original fitted to ours is one of these. These are certified for caravans. This is carbon monoxide. It isn't common to have a flammable gas monitor on caravans. Leaking gas should drain out of the floor vents and quickly disperse. These are often used on boats so maybe checking out a boat chandler.

Flammable gases aren't an issue providing they're handled with respect and the van is checked at an annual service. As said propane nd butane are heavier than air and will drop out through floor vents, rather than build up in a van if there is a leak. CO shouldn't happen on properly serviced appliances and any caravan dealership will sell a range of appropriate alarms just in case.

Thank you both, we appreciate your comments. We are taking our caravan to be serviced to Cahors by a reputable dealer on Monday. Hope all goes well. We have not used them before. If they are as good as they seem, we will publish their address in case someone needs assistance on their French holiday near Cahors. Dafydd and Beryl
