It has been our first year with our Eriba troll 530 (and caravaning! ) and now have been preparing it for winter storage. It was during this I notice on the pop-up roof has a 8-10 mm chip/hole. I will need to fix this and was wondering if any of you have some advice or experience on this?

Cheers

Could you post a photo perhaps? That might help on various approaches..

If you want a good job which will not show then I'd be looking up boat repairers who specialise in GRP. If you had to wait untill they can fit you in then cover the area with Gaffa tape.
If it was mine and cannot be seen easily, I would clean the area with meths and use an epoxy resin glue such as araldite to fill the hole.

I reckon I'd dust off the old Googler and have a look at gelcoat repairs to get a feel for what might be involved.

For what it's worth, and bearing in mind the size and type of injury you're treating, I'd probably have a bash at that myself.

If it was bigger, or had crushed or gashed the surrounding GRP I'd be taking a phone full of photographs (including something for scale) to a boatyard for advice, but that looks like a relatively straightforward puncture wound.

.

Many thanks to both . I will get some gaffer tape on this ASAP and look into this gelcoat repair myself. If this fails then maybe the boat yard trip.. although we are not near the coast :) but i know some Kayak folks.
cheers Trevor

We've just had a new shower installed and the guys damaged the shower tray. It needed a repair with gelcoat, took them no time at all and it's invisible. A hole on the roof shouldn't be too tricky.

Buy some marine gelcoat filler - Osculati is a good make and dries to bright white. Definitely exceeds the needs of the job. Currently on offer at £9.99 at Marinescene. Loctite do a white gelcoat filler too in their Plastic Padding range - but that's around £17.99
