Hello All,

Looking to purchase a winter cover for a 540. They seem quite expensive so I don’t want to make a bad purchase. Has anyone have experience and recommendations?

Thanks.

If you buy a model specific/made to measure cover then they are very expensive. Some are excellent and if you need easy access throughout the winter via the zip access directly in line with the door then they are worth considering.
I bought a generic Kampa cover a few years ago for our Triton. I believe it is made from the same high quality 4 layer fabric. I needed to wrap a few straps around the waist for the one winter I used it outside. The van was nice and clean when I took it off and the cover showed no signs of wear. I've now sold that Eriba and also the cover. I was so impressed with the performance I've bought a new one for our next Eriba.
You will need the 14-17 foot size for your Troll. I bought from here. https://vwcaliforniaclub.com/shop/produc...-14-17ft-881301 It was the cheapest I could find and arrived within a few days.

The two recognised bespoke Eriba caravan cover manufacturers are Protec and specialised.
I can only comment on specialised as I have been using the same one for the last eleven winters and it is still going strong and in good condition. It wasn’t cheap however it has paid for itself over the years. It has a gusset for the chimney and a door for access .

We did exactly as Colin did above end of last summer. Prior to that we had a model specific Protec cover. It was brilliant in that it was a perfect fit and allowed access to the door. It lasted for 3 winters and on removing at the beginning of the summer last year it was as strong as wet tissue paper. It fell apart. I had no bother tearing it apart for the bin ! The generic one we have now is a bit of a bummer to fit and strap down neatly and has no door access. It was however 30% of the Protec price and has stood up to 1 winter ( to date ) admirably. I bought it from an ebay seller with an excellent record: It arrived quick and the price was very good.
Hope this helps with your choice.
Chris

We,ve just bought Eriba's own winter cover - definitely not cheap but has it's good points. It is in three pieces - two for the sides which slide in the awning rails and meet/attach with wide velcro bands centre front and rear. The third piece is the roof - which sits over the sides and straps down like a 'cap'. The cover has door access zips and theroof piece can be easily removed in winter to pop the top to ventilate the van - leaving the sides fitted and in place. Got about 18% off RRP when buying from our local Eriba dealer (bought it when buying our van). Unfortunately Eriba only supply 3 straps for the roof, which are just about adequate to keep it in place in a light breeze but hardly enough for winter weather. Very stingy in view of the price. We'll be adding additional ones as there are plenty of 'eyes' in the roof cover to clip on more straps.

Thanks all for the feed back.

Think I’ll opt for the generic Kampa cover and have a go at cutting out a door way. Then adding a door cover secured by velcro.

I hate to say it, but I doubt the idea of cutting a doorway in will work. An awning repair and alteration company might be able to do it, but at what cost I do not know.

Hello Colin,

Thanks for posting the link. I managed to purchase a new one for £69.99 as they currently have a half price sale on.

Admin will not let me post a link but the offer is on their website you just need to look sale items.

At that price it’s worth having go at modifying the door. I’ll keep you posted if it works out.

I've just checked the website and it looks like you may have bought the 17 - 19 foot model. This will be too large. You need the 14 - 17 foot The body length of your Troll is 4.71m = 15' 5"

Hello Colin, I wanted the larger size so there would be sufficient surplus material for alterations for a door. Lots of unpicking stitches, still it will keep me busy for awhile.
