The FlamingoFA23 Photo Electric smoke alarm fitted in our Troll seems to have finally died a death after 8 years of operating. Replacing the battery now has no effect.
Being naive I simply looked to buy a replacement FA23. When I keyed into Amazon sure enough when was there at £9.99 BUT I had a big shock to find out that delivery from Germany would cost £39.98........................! I assume this is one of the many benefits of leaving the EU
When I looked at alternatives there seemed to be loads of different makes with good reviews
Could I please ask if anyone has had to replace their unit what they have replaced it with and if they would recommend it?
Thanks for any help
MikeT

They seem to be generic alarm with all different name’s stamped on it, mine needed replacing and I didn’t want to put any more holes in my roof.I got one from the Yorkshire trading company. All I did was match up the front appearance, the baseplate is the same.

The fire angel ST622 previously mentioned is a good choice. These are approved for boats and caravans and can cope with humidity and temperature changes that you don't get with a cheap domestic alarm. Had one in our boat for 8 years now, and recently replaced our Triton's original which kept going off with another one.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions
Strangely I have got the original working again. Just spent a week in York and it worked fine. I tested it everyday and all looked & sounded good..................!
Something from the Twilight Zone perhaps affected it?

We stayed here a couple of years ago https://www.yorknaburnlock.com/ and it is worth a look.
A pleasant site, good size pitches, internet at your pitch, shower block fine, bus stop outside main gate, local-ish pub, pleasant walk to the river.

Hi Dinky
We use a brilliant adults only private site on Stockton Lane called York Caravan Park. It has the best individual shower rooms of any site we have stayed on anywhere. The pitches are flat and large, with a lot having their own fresh water tap and grey water drainage. Many of the pitches have well established hedges between them to give privacy.
It is also on the Coastliner 840/843 bus route into the centre of York, with a stop right outside the Park. Buses are every half hour and a single is currently £2. It takes about 15 minutes and the last bus is after 11.00 at night. A taxi from Town is about £9.
The problem is getting on as they are very popular. Also they are a bit pricey but you get what you pay.
The wardens are also great and don't have the pettiness that some Club sites seem to attract. We pitch our Troll any way in we want.
We go a couple of times a year, usually mid-week as we are retired.
Cheers
Mike
