Before the storm I was out cutting back some of the trees on the farmers land opposite our bungalow. The leaf fall is ridiculous and a few of the branches were stretching across the road and over our driveway so had to go. I'd borrowed a pole saw, which at 6m long, plus blade and me stretched out meant I was up to about 8m. It was not the easiest of tasks going through 125mm diameter branches.
We got off lightly with the 70-80mph winds. The garden table cover became loose and I've a 50mm rip in the caravan cover that I need to put a patch over. I had planned on brushing up the leaves the day before, but thought sod it. Worked out in my favour as the storm blew them all up against one of our boundaries and it took no time to tidy up.

I must admit to doing next to nothing this weekend.
We’ve been out dog-walking each morning and evening, but we’ve kept out of the horrible weather. It’s not been too bad here in South Yorkshire compared to other places but I dont want too many weekends like that.

Don't talk to me about leaves Colin. Our frontage collects nearly every leaf in our area (along with empty crisp packets etc that sometimes break out of the rubbish bins). We have our own little wirlwind in the lane that deposits everything on out front doortep.
Tree wise, we have 3 very large willow trees growing in the culvert directly opposite that takes 2 powerful brooks under the lane. These willows are at about 45% to vertical and are about 15 inches in diameter and about 25 foot high. The problem is that neither the council or National Resources Wales will take responsibility for them although they are growing in the culvert and are rooted partially in the brooks.
We got away quite lightly really as although the rear of the house is facing south west and looks down the valley, everything stayed put except a plastic tool chest that that lives on the first floor deck and houses a very heavy pressure washer. One gust was able to move it about 10 feet across the deck and the force of the wind also "lifted" the balustrade causing the heavy 10mm glass to slide down the glass fixings.
No power cuts thankfully but no TV reception since Saturday morning.
Much against our better judgement, we ventured out on Saturday afternoon and drove the 20 miles mostly along the M4 to one of our grandkids birthday parties. All was in control as I only went at about 50 mph as did the majority of the others. However, there were still a number on lunatics on the road driving well in excess of 70 despite the powerful winds and heavy rainfall with deep pools of water on the road. The problem is that these idiots normally bounce in an accident leaving other innocent folk to suffer.

Thankfully we got our van moved into its winter spot on the drive (more sheltered) and the winter cover on earlier in the week in the calm before the storm! The cover took a real battering during the storm when the gusts seem to be coming from every angle, but amazingly it held - not bad for its ninth winter.
I have barely been on the Forum as I am feeling sorry for myself (as only a grown man can !) being in the ninth week of a pretty horrible chest infection that has laughed at 2 doses of antibiotics. I am now on my third dose in three weeks and this latest stronger & longer one seems at last to be getting somewhere....I think.
Kath has diplomatically founds lots of things to do necessitating her being out of the house for long periods of time - love is???????????
Roll on the early spring and getting the cover back off the Troll

Hope the infection clears. I got my hearing back after about 4 weeks, but chest still rough. I don't think it's an age dependant thing either.

Just catching up- we’ve got an impressive collection of leaves around the cars; most impressive because we don’t have any trees! 🤪
I was thinking of collecting them up and returning them to their owners.
