Andy.
Can you isolate the booster from the battery circuit and report back with the voltage across the terminals (with the van still hooked up to the mains), d'you think? There should be an inline fuse between the booster and the battery.
It'd be good to rule out incorrect wiring of the booster - it really should have no function unless you have a vehicle attached and its engine is running.

Hang on....... I forgot I had left 5 lights on, as I switched the lights of the meter reading went down and down one by one, and now it's reading 13.60v

I did remove that first and then the bottom fuse, then finally switched the switch to the down position.
Whilst writing this the meter is going up it's now on 13.64v still with the green light off.

If the booster box is really just connected to the towing side does this mean I will have to flick the switch back up when towing.
I am having my van converted from single electrics to a 13 pin socket in a weeks time. Should I make the fitter aware of this booster box?
Meter now reading 13.68v

This is all very confusing.
So far as I understand it (and I'm wide-open to correction here) the Continentals tend to use their vans almost exclusively on EHU so normally they would not have a leisure battery fitted. If they wanted to stop overnight, at an aire for example, leaving their car and caravan connected, they would flick the second switch on the BIP up and be able to run lights, taps etc. from their car battery. I assume there would have been some system to prevent them discharging the battery to the extent that they would be unable to start the car?
UK imports through Letchlade were upgraded with a BIP SE unit, battery and Schaudt booster as we Brits are more likely to camp away from an EHU. People who import vans from the Continent usually have to modify them to UK specification but not having done this myself, I'm unsure what that entails.
The second switch on the BIP is therefore of no practical use on a UK spec caravan and mine (when it worked as originally intended) was always in the 'off' position. But this switch had no effect on the booster unit which worked only when towing. As my switch has now been modified I'm unable to check again.
It's quite possible that Hymer modified their circuitry between my van and yours but if so, I can't see any sensible reason for connecting the booster to the electrical system when on EHU.
Where's the expert when we need him?

We'll spotted.
I am no whizz with these gadgets, I have just moved the probes down a hole each on the meter
Reading now says 13.70v without the minus sign.
