Winter Heater for Eriba

I know its still a long way off but we had been thinking what would be the ideal type of heater to leave on in the van over the winter once we get the colder weather and may not be using the van as often.

Has anybody got and preferences and if so, why?

Some one told me about tube heaters, they look neat but come in a range of of outputs, if you use one of these which do you have?

As ever, look forward to reading some replies on this matter.

I use a Glen 120W tube (70cm long) plugged into a thermostatically controlled 240v plug adaptor in a Troll540.
It keeps the worst of the chill off.
However we do use our Eriba all year round so it is not left for weeks on end without heat.

we use the ultra heat element when on electric with the blown air, this ultra heat element can be retro fitted and doesn't take up any extra room, otherwise use gas heater, or cook a rice pudding in pan on hob

When we are away in the colder months we use an oil filled radiator, about £20 from most outlets. When the van is parked up at home, absolutely nothing! not even connected up to electric, battery is 10 years old and fine, I've just checked but in 30 odd years we have only had 4 batteries! I know at least 2 have been Varta.

We have the ultra heat element in the Familia which is sufficient, however when we had the Puck we used a mini oil heater and it was more than warm enough. We could leave it on all night and it would kick in with its own thermostatic control and it was silent.

These two from Argos are about the same size as I use to use, and they are not too high in wattage to trip the EHU.

We don't use ours in the winter, October was the latest and she is under a cover outside, with two windows on the vent setting and unheated. No problems yet.

We have a 800W oil filled radiator from Argos. When we are away in winter we use it on it's thermostat and it holds 20C constantly, even if it's sub-zero outside. Have thought about having an ultra heat element installed, but find it hard to justify the cost when the radiator works so well.

We've never heated any of our vans while they sit in the home driveway. We open the pop-top and crack the vents when we can, take bedding indoors and stand bench cushions on end to allow some circulation.

I have posted in this thread and read it with interest I was hoping to find comments from someone who has actually fitted either permanently or temporarily an oil filled radiator in their Eriba, and if so what method did they use and if possible some pictures please.

I realise that space and heat radiation may be a problem, but was also hoping for an ingenious solution.

Any takers

So what about looking at this from a different angle, a completely "off the wall" idea in more ways than one?

We use a 500w Dimlex Oil filled radiator for normal heating in our Triton plus we have a 500w fan heater for the quick warmup. Together, these bits of kit are very complimentary when we have EHU. However, we also have a gas fired Propex warm air heater when no EHU available. BTW, the fan heater is the lowest power one we have found, which may be of interest.
