Hi, I'm new to eriba and although we do not own one yet, We are actively searching for an early 80s Familia with the hammock bed.
We have a growing family and the VW T5 is starting to get a little cramped.
I'm hoping to learn some top tips from the forum, so I'll be back regularly.

Thanks

Hi Rich and welcome to Eribafolk.
We'll also keep an eye open for an '80's Familia for you. In the meantime please feel free to ask as many questions as you like. There'll always be someone on here who will probably be able to help you.

Thanks Pop, yes I have been keeping an eye out on eBay and every other classifieds site.
I'm sure one will come up soon, or one of the companies I have been I touch with will come up trumps.

We pick up or '81 triton next weekend..... And we will be using it for the first time then too.
Can anyone tell me why the serial number on the paperwork and on the van is 6 numbers
But the insurance companies want 17 numbers?

Congratulation on your new purchase. Did you buy privately and was it at home or abroad?
Regarding the Serial number, on our '99 Troll it's an 8 digit number (probably because it's newer) but there is also another number on the plate which is a 17 digit number.
The serial number is on the left hand side of our plate whereas the 17 digit number is on the right, 3rd row down. Perhaps that's what they require (if, in fact it's the same as on your van). See photo (I've smudged various numbers for obvious reasons )

If yours is different then I suppose you can argue your case because you've got an older van

Thanks Randa, we bought it privately in the end, from the uk. I've spoken with the companies and they have excepted the 6 digit serial number due to the age of the van ;-)

Can't wait now
