Carole has info from a distant Ozzie relly who we met while at the Stroud meet, so we must follow it up.
She was told there was a commerative window in a chapel of a church in Souhtall, so we made arrangements to visit on Tuesday. That was an eyeopener for a start, talk about being the only white face in the village. Anyway the church assistance was excellent and there was the window dedicated to her rellie who died in the Somme when he was 21. He was a sacristan at the church. I took photos ready to transmit to Oz.
Then we went to Cookham to view the Stanley Spencer gallery. A pleasnt walk in a nice area and then lunch by the Thames on a smashing day.
Yesterday we continued the search In Winchester, which was her assumption as the family have many connections there. Lot of time in the Records Office where we thought we would complete our search. After an hour of absolute nothingness, she had the brainwave that maybe we were looking in the wrong city and should be back in Middlesex somewhere, Southall area. I have suggested she needs to send what we have to Oz and advise them that a lot of stuff they provided is incomplete and quite possibly wrong.
Here is my picture of the window, a part of it names her relative, so that was useful.
