motorhome overnight stays on the roadside

I'm in Minehead in Somerset (not in my van ) and I have observed quite a few small UK motorhomes spend a couple of nights on the roadside near the sea front. I have seen them cooking their tea, watching telly and getting ready for bed, I personally couldn't imagine or even want to set up the Eriba on a very busy roadside and be in full view just to save a few quid, I didn't think it was legal in the UK

There are very few places you can do it legally, some turn a blind eye. Even motorway service areas frown and charge in many cases for overnight stops, saying that, I don't do that anymore and when I did it was because something unforseen caused us to do it. I've wild camped lots but usually with permission of a friendly farmer, football or rugby club etc.

The continent has the right idea on Autobahns etc by having rest places with no petrol station just toilets and picnic table.

You wouldn't want to put your van here, it's just outside Butlins with several hundred people watching you put your socks on.....

I've driven through that area and like Porlock, socks! I'd have to give them something to look at

It makes sense, otherwise the traveling fraternity would be at the end of everyone's street....

Yes, some local kids once put a tent on the common nearby for half the day and soon it was a P*K*E* encampment.
