I've been buying light bulbs via the internet for a couple of years now. There are several UK based specialist companies who provide excellent service. They can still supply the 'EU banned' incandescent lightbulbs if you want and I recently purchased three 60W equivalent LED bulbs with BC fittings for just over £8 each. I gave up on the old energy savers way back, as you say they're dull, slow to brighten and clunky overall as well as looking 'horrible in a light fitting.
