Motor Mover

Hello to one and all again...

After our last holiday we have decided we need to fit a motor-mover to our Triton 420. I did contact the mobile people who 'do' France but they are not here in Brittany until after our departure to the south and east, so we need to get on with it now.

I would again like to tap into the collective wisdom and savoir faire of members and to ask if there is any advice, tips, warnings etc related to the fitting of motor-movers on Eribas. I think I did read (on here?) that motor-movers on Eribas need to be fitted behind the wheel and so need to be installed upside down. We do not have a leisure battery in our caravan so we need to instal that as well. My own preference would be to avoid the relatively high prices charged in France for motor-mover kits/fitting and to import one myself. I have a pal who is a mechanic in a motor-home garage and he is confident about doing the fitting. However, I do need to buy the correct item, one that is compatible with the Eriba chassis.

As ever, I would be most grateful for any advice.

ps - I see the Eriba event is planned for the Morbihan in southern Brittany in May next year. If we are still in France on the day, we will drive down in the hope of meeting up with EribaFolk.

Cheers to one and all.

Hey, that would be nice. We'll probably have more information at the beginning of next year.

Regarding motor movers, I'm not the best person to answer this but unless you've already done so, have a look at this thread :-Motor mover
As you can see, I've considered fitting one/having one fitted on several occasions but since carrying the hand winch I am now far more confident of getting out of a tight spot ( not that it's ever happened since I started carrying it...)
During my search/research I was taken with the Purpleline mover (see link on thread) because they appeared to be quite a popular make, reasonably priced and, I think, they will sell them supply only.
Whichever one you chose, don't forget the additional brackets necessary for fitting to the Eriba chassis.

Thank you Randa. I am investigating options and will post further when decisions have been made. Today we went to the local Eriba concessionaire who offered to supply fit the whole kaboodle for only 3200 euros! This was for a Truma Mover and a 75Ah battery. They could however do a cheaper 'Go' mover for only 2100 euros.....

We will not be taking up any of these 'offers'. Further trawling of internet sites revealed a fitted unit for 1280 euros. Although this is a bit further from home, we might have to go for that.

C'est la vie francaise!

Well, we bit the bullet and placed the order - job to be done on 11 December - after checking it all out as far as possible. It is a Hymer place and they say that they will throw in an extra bracket if needed within the quoted price. Life should be that bit easier next time we are out.

Have not come across that one yet, hope you're happy with it, and it does a good job. Best of luck......Ian.

The dealer sings the praises of Moove - maybe no surprise there! I looked them up and it seems to be a large company manufacturing electronic/electrical goods etc.

I wonder what other Eriba owners have done about the siting of the battery. The only available space seems to be inside the caravan, in the space under one of the front seats. One UK dealer to whom I spoke said that safety regulations require the battery to be placed in a sealed box or compartment (not in the living area) to guard against leakage of gases or fluid etc.

As space in the gas locker is very limited, it seems to me that the battery must be located somewhere inside the living area.

I wonder how other EribaFolk have approached this job

Many thanks in advance for help and advice.

Bonne journee a tous.

'Morning armorican. I'm a little confused. I though I read that your Triton is a 420 and the 420 has a front kitchen so no front seats?
As you know, we don't have a mover but a battery pack has been retrofitted under the non-door side rear seat of our Troll. It is housed in a plastic battery box with lid which,in no way is sealed. There is a lot of chat on various campervan/motorhome forums regarding venting gases out and away from the living compartment but I can see no evidence of that in our van.

I would have thought that if your battery is a standard lead acid type then, (for peace of mind if nothing else) it should have a vent pipe from one of the top corners of the battery routed straight down through the floor to the outside. The battery normally comes with the necessary connector and poly tube but they are easily obtained from car accessory shops such as Halfrauds!

Hello again to all - and many thanks for all the time and trouble taken.

Well, I am getting my education on here!

Firstly, I have the original brochure for our van and it is described as a 'Touring Triton BSA'. No number is given except that the body length, excluding tow-bar is shown as 414cm. As this is closer to 420 than 430, I assumed it must be a ''420' although my wife says the seller described it as a '430'. Maybe these numbers relate to something other than body length? The kitchen area is on the right-hand side (facing forward) and the front contains 2 seats and table, convertible to a single bed. Under the left-hand seat (facing forward) is a water-container with pump to supply the bathroom wash-hand basin. The original purchaser had an external access panel cut and fitted on the rear left-hand side (ie under the double-bed which we always leave made-up) and the mains electrical connection is visible here. Perhaps this would be the place to position the battery as it would then be much closer to the axle.

Secondly, the motor mover kit I am buying comes with a battery, but I am unsure as to its spec, (AGM or lead acid), other than that it is 105 aH. There is also a yellow, lidded plastic box in which it will sit. I will ask about venting etc to see if this is necessary given whatever kind of battery it turns out to be.

I am now better aware of things to look out for and this will be of help. We are having the job done in December and will post further as we go along.

Thank you again to all who have offered their advice

I think...420 = 4 metres 2 berth

430 = 4 metres 3 berth

The BSA is the 430 and if you have an enclosed wash room with toilet your description suggests that you have a 430 ( the 420 is called a TM). There's also a BS model that has a wash room but no toilet. I think the number suffix superseded the letter suffix in around 2000.
Here's a Dutch 1998 brochure with the layouts shown on page 43 of the brochure. http://www.eriba.nl/uploads/file/Archief...gramma-1998.pdf
Looking forward with interest to hearing about your mover and battery fitting. Please keep us posted especially with regard to the venting.

If its any help my battery and motor mover was fitted by AL (Automotive Leisure) when I bought my Eriba Familia 320 . the battery is a Banner Running Bull 95ah sealed AGM (Absorbed glass mat) so there is no need for any venting. It is clamped to the floor almost over the axle and next to the mover electrics.

See the picture for reference:
