Just remember that if you flatten your battery, you could be in trouble with a modern car.
A solar panel of 40 watts (with a regulator) would help onsite.

I think the cost of having the car made over to full 13 pin was around £80, Pepe Le Pew
(intrepid explorer and all round good egg) fitted a Schaudt unit to charge the caravan battery
while on the move. well worth doing.

Quote Chris:- I will make enquiries about a second socket see how much it will cost, other than that perhaps take two batteries with me,both fully charged before we leave home.

Quote Logburber:- In my early days of caravanning, pre 13 pin sockets, I had the normal 7 pin socket, with an extra single 1 pin socket put in alongside the 7 pin socket.
This was fitted by an auto electrician, with a single wire of 2.5mm copper cross section, purely for the fridge. As I remember, it had an in line fuse (can't remember the rating) and went through a relay which only came on when engine was running, and went off (disconnected power from battery) when engine was switched off (so didn't drain battery when stationary) Could be your cheaper answer to the relevant problem. (single plug and socket was a push in fit )

The one thing you haven't mentioned Chris is does your Puck have a Leisure battery and a BIP (Zig) Unit fitted? As your Puck already has 2 x 7pin electric sockets we assume that it has previously been set up to recharge an on board leisure battery.
Although I never got round to fitting one myself, Logburner's post reminded me of the days when most camp sites were "off grid" so many campers fitted a Split Relay to their tow vehicles which charged their leisure battery, often stored in the boot of the car.
Does anyone have any memories or experience of fitting and using these?

I remember I had a box with a trickle charger and a battery in it, located in my boot, but that was sometime ago, when we towed with a 2300 Vauxhall Magnum so to hazard a guess 1975 ish, before that we justvtook a "spare" 12v battery with us OR had warm milk not a problem then!

Yep the Puck has 12 volt system with a leisure battery but whether it has a bip unit or charge system I do not know and I can"t find out for a few days until I go up there,I'm guessing it has because everything else about the van was all up together and spot on.
The folk I bought it from had more kids and have just upgraded to a bigger Eriba, so might even be members on here.
Many thanks for your help.

Sounds like your seller could be an Eriba enthusiast.......well worth a phone call to him/her, as they will probably be able to give you the information you need, without having to wait until you next see your pride and joy !
I had forgot that you had twin sockets already. If you have all the info of what you have got, along with the idea of what you want........when you see your towbar man, he may come up with your easiest, cheapest option.........Ian.
