Camping Spain

Bit of a moan here...we have had a great time in Spain so far, a month into our 4 month tour, but a couple of niggles.....

Despite high temperatures, no swimming pools are open until mid June! We stayed at a lovely mountain campsite at 1300 metres and their pool was open despite cool temperatures, but with temperatures at 30+ the others say not until mid June.

A few campsites have the Asci logo on their websites and are listed on the Asci website, but when you turn up, they say they are not Asci. The only campsite in Toledo was over 30 euros a night, with no pool open or any other facilities, just the bar and restaurant. Despite being on the Asci app this is poor value for money. Same here in Cuenca. Nothing on the campsite is open except the bar and restaurant and 28 euros a night despite the Asci logo on their website and on the reception board...they say they haven't been asci since 2012. We stopped at a site near Sofia that was on the Asci site but said it wasn't asci. Again, very expensive and nothing at all was open except for Sat and Sun. As we turned up midweek we said no thanks and left.

Having said all that we have stayed on some lovely sites for asci rates where the owners have been so helpful.

Crikey! Those rates do seem unreasonable, particularly to a tight-fisted Yorkshireman like me.

If I were you, I'd be emailing ACSI to let them know how their logo is being misused and their good name besmirched. (I can't believe I just used that word - it must be the wine.)

Seriously, I've read bad things about sites in Italy and Spain which is why we tend to stick to France where prices seem much more reasonable and attitudes more laissez-faire.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Yes, we have never had a problem with any ACSI site and plan our trips via them. There again never had probs worth writing about in Italy or Spain, we take what comes or find elseweher.

Yes Derek but when there is no elsewhere, as the site has a monopoly, like Toledo and Cuenca, you ought to be able to rely on what they suggest by their own websites, clearly displaying the Asci logo to pull you in, then they deny being Asci sites and charge you 30 euros when the Asci sticker is in the window and literally no facilities are open. Last 4 nights cost us 120 euros with just a bare pitch and shower facilities. No Internet, no pool, most of the site cordoned off so anyone with just a tent has nothing to do. Tonight's site at Albarracin is just 16 euros, lovely helpful staff, free Internet, terrace where you don't have to buy drinks to sit down if you don't have luxury of a caravan/motorhome. When you consider what some of the sites do provide at Asci rates, it's just not on.

Rant over!
