Eribabuse!

While we were looking at Eribas at the Caravan Show in February we realised that a number of the other people were just looking round out of curiosity, with little real interest in purchase.

One generously portioned man said to the Salesman "We have a huge car and a huge caravan, we look and laugh at these on caravan sites so we thought that we'd have a look inside"

Naturally he got a polite response!

Anyway as we are still waiting for our van I thought that I would ask (just for fun) if any of you have had any "put downs" and if you have any humorous replies that you would like to share

I did once suggest to one of these characters that he rent a house instead of bringing his with him .......that way he could have a smaller car.

To be fair most people who comment are either interested or curious enough to want to have a look.

on my last trip out I stopped at a busy junction in a nearby town and a small boy pointed and said "look at the caravan mummy" to which his mum replied ..........."that's a really cool caravan that is"

I had a big grin on my face for the next few miles.

We have friends who had what we used to call a "gin palace". They called our Eriba the "ice cube" but when we went away together with another couple of friends all 6 ended up in the Eriba, it had the largest seating area for 6. In the time we have had our Eriba they have had 2 caravans, a motorhome and now a VW campervan (which is lovely but they are not happy with it). Some folk are never satisfied, our little PuckL is still worth what we paid for it, has travelled thousands of miles and is small but perfectly formed.

When I bought the Puck I was so proud on arriving home as I tried to reverse it onto the drive. I managed to get it on in a fashion a neighbour from across the road who has had big caravans remarked what's that, to which I replied it is my luxury caravan. He replied my lunch box is bigger

When we had the Puck a lady just stood and starred at the van whilst we were putting the awning up, she said she had never seen a caravan as small as that before....

I have described ours to non caravaning friends as a "Hobbit house" as to me that is a wonderful compliment. He is going to be called Bilbo.
We chatted with an owner at Grassington once and was made very welcome, so in my mind all Eriba owners will be nice and friendly.
To be honest I don't care what anyone thinks, I just know we are going to love it!
Enjoying your comments though-keep em coming!

We have had our van now a year and so far everyone has been positive...well think so. It has been called cute, compact and twee. We have just come back from a weekend at The Golden Swan in Wilcot (what a lovely village) and the guy next to us wished he had a van like ours as he had to pull his fathers massive white wobbly box and hated it.

Back at Clumber Park last week next pitch had a cream coloured caravan (can't remember the brand but it looked newish) and the chap asked if we would mind if he had a peep in Marmite as he'd never seen inside one.
No problem come on in so long as I can sit in your brand new Mondeo Titanium estate (very yummy it was too)
Anyway the conversation went along these lines:
How long have you had the van? Bought new in January 2007
Oh it doesn't look like it's on it's ninth season have you had any trouble with it? We had to put new hinges on the wardrobe but that's all why do you ask?
That thing (pointing to his van) has been back to the dealer eleven times since we bought it in May 2014 and it's still not right - I'm sorry I ever bought it , it is a load of sh*te
Oh - would you like a beer? Two (might have been more) beers later he had cheered up but he did get an Eriba Kiss on the way out.

I have to concur with Hob, when out and about we are often told how cool eribas are. Thinking about, it the phrase I would use would be: Size doesn't matter, it is what you do with it that counts!

On our first holiday in our then eight year old Triton, we met a very nice British couple with a super-whizzo, all bells and whistles, all singing and dancing three year old Abbey caravan that was very luxuriously appointed.

In conversation I mentioned that I'd paid £11,000 for the Eriba three months earlier and my new friend's face fell. "Bloody hell!" he said, "That's about what this is worth now."

I shall never again feel the need to explain my choice of caravan to anyone and will continue to feel smug as I see their 'latest models' rapidly go out of fashion and devalue.

The Eriba Touring is a classic and as such will never go out of fashion. (Having said that, I wouldn't mind some of the home comforts of these more modern designs.)

Last weekend we watched as first one huge (compared to the Troll) motorhome pulled in opposite us. She donned gloves and they unhitched the trailer with the smart car. The car was unloaded and the trailer heaved and shoved to the rear of the pitch. They seemed a pleasant couple but didn't really speak to anyone. When they were onsite they disappeared inside. They used the car one day, went walking, I think, the next, then hitched up the car and trailer again and left. A similar large vehicle arrived on the hard standing next to the first. They ran out their suncanopy then surrounded themselves with windbreaks. A gap between two was quickly covered. I don't think they spoke to many people either. Lots of people spoke to us and mentioned the van, (or the dogs). One couple spoke lovingly about an Eriba they had once owned and another guy asked for details about build quality, towing etc. I guess it's horses for courses and I suppose it makes them happy but I know which type of rig I'd rather have!
