Seized AL-KO drawbar

We met 2 other Eriba owners on a recent trip and on having a look over one of their vans I was surprised how easily the drawbar was to move in its sleeve. This made me think that the Drawbar on mine didn't actually move at all. The handbrake pulls on the brakes so there's no problem at the axle, and I have now dismantled the drawbar completely having found that the bar was indeed seized in the bushes. Its not particularly rusty and there was plenty of grease, but a websearch has suggested that the bushes have swelled over time and the solution is the either replace them or ream them out slightly to allow the bar to slide. The unit is an AL-KO 120sr, but can only find similar looking bushes for a 60X/90s.
So to get to the query, has anyone had similar issues? and is reaming the way forward?

These bushes are supposed to fit a 120sr. Are they not the right thing?

Cheers Pepe, they look the business, found similar ones on "trailer tec" but they only listed them for the 60/90. I'll knock the old ones out and replace with these and pop a working damper on there too. Heading west over the Aug bank hols so time is ticking to get it sorted.

Had a look at the taunton trailers damper but it has 2 bolt eyes but mine needs an 8mm tread at the hitch end so will spread my shopping between them and trailer tek who have a match.

I have just replaced my damper on the same ALKO set up. Kool classics sell the one you need for £70.00 google them they are easy to find.

Here is the drawing for the tow bar as well.

The bushes from Taunton Trailers were different to mine, their bushes were only full diameter for 10mm or so. Mine are the full diameter over their entire 50mm-ish length. I dismantled it all and filed enough from the inner face to get the shaft moving smoothly. The trailertec damper was £68. Thanks for the illustration Mark, without it it took me a while to figure out how to extract the shaft from the sleeve. After removing all the through bolts the drawbar has to be pushed 2" further into the tube so that a pair of Roll pins are exposed and can be knocked out downwards, then the drawbar and sleeve can be pulled out the front.
The illustration doesn't show that there is an aluminium sleeve inside the front part of the drawbar tube. The bushes are housed in either end of this sleeve, then the 6 short bolts hold it in place. The steel shaft bolted to the coupling slides back and forth, held in place by the bushes inside this sleeve. The roll pin would prevent the steel bar from pulling away from the caravan if say all the bolts had fallen out, and the damper also failed.

Hey Randa, yes its all back together. Need to refit the bolts in correct order though, line up the end of damper 1st, then push the body in far enough to tap in the Roll Pins, then pull it back to fit the 6 short bolts. Leaking shock next on list...

Hi Sam and welcome to Eribafolk.
It might be worth you giving Kool Classics a ring. They specialise in Eriba Classic vans and are very approachable. http://koolclassics.com/storepage1439000.aspx
