Hi, just joined today having been a Familia GT owner for the past seven years. This was our first caravan, having used an Andre Jamais trailer tent user for many previous years. We are delighted with the Eriba, especially as it fits into our garage! Mainly use it for holidays in France, which is where we bought it new and brought it back to Ireland on the direct Cherbourg to Rosslare 18 hour crossing. I presently have some DIY items to sort and may be seeking some assistance on our forum.
Delighted to be part of a group of like minded enthusiasts.
Regards,
Colin

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for your response.
I am a keen shortwave monitor and use a vintage Eddystone receiver, hence the username. My email title is sort of related, as I monitor a lot of aviation traffic both on HF and VHF, it is reflective of radar jargon.
Sorry, "1916 P14" means nothing to me, any clues?
Regards,
Colin

Just before the Great War, Britain was about to replace the Lee-Enfield rifle with a new design based on the German Mauser action but due to development problems with the new high velocity cartridge, production problems at Vickers and the urgent need to manufacture rifles, the War office had to contract the work out to the USA and retain the existing .303 cartridge.
The Americans built the new rifle at three factories, Winchester, Remington and a new Remington one at the former Eddystone railway engine factory. The rifle was known as the Pattern 1914 (or P14). Unfortunately, quality control was a bit inconsistent and parts made at the different factories were not always interchangeable so the rifles were never issued to frontline troops and were held in reserve. If you look at the rifles carried by the platoon in Dad's Army, you will see that they are not Lee-Enfields but the correct P14s.
When the Americans entered the War they needed a new battle rifle so they used the existing machinery to produce one that fired their .30-30 calibre cartridge and that was known as the Pattern 1917 rifle.
Your use of "Eddystone" and "downrange" suggested to me that you might be a target shooting enthusiast. I have a 1916 Eddystone P14.
Sorry for the confusion, Colin, but it was a remarkable coincidence.

Hi Colin and welcome to Eribafolk.
Interesting that you purchased your Familia in France. There are a few other members from Ireland who are currently looking for Eribas so your experience might be of interest to them.
Hope you enjoy the forum.

Hi,
Many thanks to all for the kind welcome.
Also, thank you Aaron for clarifying the Eddystone connection; I should have referred you to my blog and Flickr pages, which are links off my photo website as shown in my profile, which may help clarify my hobby activities.
With regard to my Familia GT purchase in France, I will cover this in more detail shortly.
Also, I will be raising some queries with regard to kitchen tap maintenance, which I am sure your members will be able to assist me with.
Thanks again and regards for now,
Colin
