Newbie questions! Which Pan layout is better?

Hi - apologies for the newbie questions.................................................. I'm new to Eribas and indeed to caravans as I have not owned one previously.

I am looking for an Eriba and I would appreciate your thoughts.

I initially thought that a Puck would be for me but on reflection I feel that a Pan with its slightly bigger layout would suit me a little better. I think that a Pan may have more longevity (to me in ownership potential) as, if I take to this vanning malarky (!), I won't be upgrading to a bigger van within the year. Just a thought!

From what I have gleaned so far the Pan is only slightly bigger and heavier so as far as towing and storage (on my driveway) there is not much in it.

My first question is with regards to the internal layout within the Pan. I see that some have the third bed across the front of the van. Is it fair to say that this bed is about 5' so would only be suitable for shorter people?

How long are the other two beds/double at the other end?

In your experience is the two bed layout preferable to the three bed one or the other way around and if so why?

I will do my research but is there a link to a buyers guide that may save me much heart ache?

I am also considering a trip to Holland, France or Germany to source one and was wondering if anyone else here has done a similar thing?

Is there anyone in Surrey or nearby who currently owns a Pan who would not mind me coming to have a look at their 'Pride and Joy' and allow me to ask lots of boring newbie questions?

I plan to tow with a 70's VW Camper so cannot consider any of the bigger models!

Many thanks

Jules

I have the later 2012 Eriba Familia 320 (Pan), we had a Puck which we loved but we found not having a toilet was a real bind and we had to use an awning to accommodate a porta potti which was a pain at times.
The two bed Familia with the toilet allows us to travel light and just use a sun shade if required. You will probably need an early Pan for the VW camper as they are a bit lighter, mine weighs 900kg, the Familia without a bathroom will weigh approximately 50kg less.

Thanks - I've just spotted the one in Dover - 1986 for £3.5K - which is my price range!

You are correct re the heavier and later model - My Bus is not the quickest and I would deffo need the lighter model.

Any thoughts on the layouts as mentioned above or is the third bed only in the later models?

Hi Jules and welcome to Eribafolk.

You are in Surrey. Have you been in touch with these people http://koolclassics.com/ who are to the south of you. They specialise in older Eribas and often have one or two Pucks or Pans on their books. Perhaps they'll give you a look at a couple. They appear to be nice people and are VW bus owners. g48p566-westfalia-and-Pogue-puck.html

Cross bed sleeping Eribas including the Pan/Familia will have a bed length which will comfortable fit anyone up to about 6' tall. Any taller and it then becomes debatable.

Although a late 80's/early 90's Pan/Familia with a washroom might just be within your budget, many of the older Pans will not come with a washroom so the layout becomes a bit academic.

A suitable awning and a porta potti is the simple answer.

Thanks for the welcome and the links! I'll start my search - I'm not in a rush so I'll keep an eye on this forum and the usual places for any tempting purchases! Looks like my budget should get me a mid 80's Pan?
