Battery Charging at home

Hi, I want to top up the battery to make sure it's not running down since last using the Eriba and I have pluged it in to my 240v at home and need to know if I need to put the switch on for the electrics to work to charge the battery or will it charge just because it's plugged in on EHU, with the electrics switch turned off. I was told but can't remember!

Hello Taffy

I wouldn't like to guess because I don't know how your electrics are set up, but a foolproof way of checking whether a battery is charging or not is to put a multimeter across its terminals while it's connected up.

If it's charging it'll read about 13.8v. If it isn't it'll read less - i.e. whatever the internal charge is.

You might also consider wiring in a small digital voltmeter (there are several references to installing them on here) on a permanent basis.

That way you'll always know what state the battery is in.

Thanks, I was told that while on EHU that the battery will take top up charge, so just to be sure I put the switch on for the electric and have left it trickle feed. Was told to top up a little every month so as not to let the battery go down as it would prolong battery life.
