Pre-purchase question - Is the bathroom worth it?

I'm getting ready to purchase a new Triton 410/420 or a Troll 540 for just me.
In regards to the Triton....is it worth sacrificing some the interior space having a bathroom?
After reading the literature...the shower water would be warm at best...and I do feel that I would always prefer the on-site showers and sink facilities.
Also...I could just keep a portaloo for unexpected night time visits.
It's difficult to make the decision as I have never actually viewed the Eriba range... I'm going to the dealers next week.
Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Hello and welcome.
From what I have been told the loo is great in an eriba. But the shower is not worth using. Due to I think it was the bathroom is not fully sealed. But someone will be along shortly who will be able to say for definite.
Yes going to dealers is the way to go. And then you will be certain what you want. Good luck and keep us informed
Still looking for a good puck

Firstly, welcome to the forum.
It is, of course, a matter of individual preference and while some of us would not be without a toilet, others (fewer in number, I think) prefer to do without. We wouldn't be without ours but 'you pay your money and you take your pick'.
As for space, well, how much space do you need or want? We go away for four weeks at a time towing with a convertible and have never once thought that we needed more storage space.
The 'shower' in an Eriba is a joke. There isn't one. All it is is a shower head on an extending hose and unless you specify a hot water system, it will deliver cold water only. We have had our Triton 420 for four and a half years and have not yet wished we had either a proper shower or hot water as we use the on-site facilities. If you intend to camp where there are no facilities, then it's another matter altogether and others on here can advise you better than I can.
I think you are really putting the cart before the horse as the very first thing to do is to go and look at the various models and then draw up a shortlist. You need to think about whether you can sleep comfortably across the van or need the longer bed option. Unless you are an accomplished reverser, you will need to consider having a motor mover. Lots of people manage without them but once you've experienced the convenience of having a mover, I doubt if you'd willingly do without. A mover will add about £1500 to the cost of a new caravan.
When you've seen the range and the options available and have drawn up a list of essential and desirable features, we'll be in a better position to assist you.

I would say the washroom is worth having in the models you are thinking of. You are correct the shower is not worth it but for a sink and loo it's a big plus, especially if you want to resell as many people eventually look for the added bonus of the loo. In my opinion the space it takes up is very little and outweighed by the luxury of it.

We don't have a bathroom and don't need one as we always use sites with facilities. The bed question is probably more important, we have the PuckL which has the long bed down the van so to speak. Hubby is just over 6 ft and can't comfortably sleep across the van so that reduces the models that are suitable. Looking at the range is a good idea, if you don't want to buy new it will help (along with the layouts) to narrow down what van you want. Buying new you will probably have to wait a while but if you are buying secondhand waiting is not a good idea. If you find one you like at the right price, snap it up, they don't hang around. Good luck, oh and .

I have had a Puck without a toilet which was ok, however the convenience of a washroom soon got the better of us and we bought a Familia 320 which is the smallest Eriba with a washroom. We still use the site facilities for a shower etc, I agree that the shower in the Eriba is difficult to use and is probably best suited to wash sand off your feet.
Most folks that have a porta potti will also have an awning for a bit of privacy if they are with their partner, as your on your own this wouldn't be an issue for you. But if you do prefer an awning for the potti it means more time and effort to pitch up and more paraphernalia to take. A Triton without a toilet in the UK are not as common which suggests resale wise they won't be as popular.
Personally for me my Eriba has to have a toilet.
When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!

Yes, you organise yourself with what most suits you and how you want to use the van. But I wouldn't be without the washroom! We started off with tents but the thought of night time treks across a campsite appals now and I'm not keen on a portapotti in a cupboard or an awning. The site facilities are mostly very good, but not always, so hot water for washing up or washing oneself is a good backup. You have the option too of staying on some quiet sites with minimal facilites. I'm not keen either on trekking out in the rain, dark or cold even if the site facilities are good! I can manage the shower and can manage not to soak the whole area (but I am only 5' 2") - It's a spray down really but quite adequate after which I hang the curtain out of the window to dry and have a quick mop round. And the heating system certainly gives us very hot water. For this to be installed you need either an external supply like an aquaroll (we opted for this) or a large onboard tank (which takes up a locker and you still have to carry an aquaroll for filling it as you are rarely within suitable distance of a tape to be able to use a hose). We find we still have plenty of room in the Troll for two people and two dogs.

I reckon a 420 would be a luxurious van for one person. Plenty of space and storage. 2 super single beds so one could be left permanently made up.
A bathroom and toilet which doubles up as a drying room.
Get a hot water system and a mover and 'the world's yer oyster!'

Hi Dr Nigel I'm a newby too and we had the same dilemna. We decided to come back to caravaning and went with a Triton 418 which we're picking up from Holland on Wednesday!
This has 2 dinettes which convert into 2 doubles (the front seat has an extender) and no washroom. We made our decision based on;
- there will mainly be the 2 of us - however on the odd occasions our 2 daughters who are at Uni may come along so there's space for them(although they'd probably prefer Ibiza!)
- our last caravan - a large German Geist - had a bathroom and was used very infrequently and emptying the toilet wasn't my favourite task - no number 2s please! It had a shower too but we never used it prefering the site facilities. We will keep a porta potti in the new van just in case.
- availability - as has already been mentioned it depends if you want to wait for a new specific build or you take a stock item - if you go with the latter you
have to take what is available. We looked at what was available in the UK and abroad and found the 418 in Holland - the Dutch vans are also 20-25% cheaper - there are a lot of Eriba dealers over there which must keep the market competitive. We found ours on www.marktnet.nl - worth considering if you're prepared to go down that route.
We looked at a variety of new models at Airstream and co - the bathrooms were very impressive with touch lighting etc but for us they seemed to use up too much space on what is a relatively small van.
At the end of the day it is what YOU want - not what everyone else prefers.
Happy hunting!

Welcome to the site... Let's face it, what ever you buy, is going to be wonderful, it is an Eriba, after all.. We first owned a Puck, then upgraded to a Puck L, which suits us perfectly, because we can still park it in garage at home. Met with a few, from the forum last week end and had the privilege of looking at some other Eriba models. Each and every one was great,so enjoy the adventure. Look forward to hearing how you get on.

Thank you everyone for your replies!
One of the reasons I will be buying new is due to the fantastic low cost depreciation, and after reading your comments, the Eriba might be easier to sell (and depreciate less) with a bathroom....although I don't forsee selling for a long time!
I'm either off to Poole to see the full range this weekend, or maybe wait until the NEC show in three weeks....but whatever one I pick, I think I'll be including a bathroom....the only thing that really dictates my choice is that I'm nearly 6 foot 2 inches...so sleeping lengthways is better than sideways.

If you limit yourself to no1s you can get away with a bucket for the nocturnal trips but we have a toilet and I don 't mind emptying it 😱

Just think of the time it takes to put on shoes & raincoat before you walk over to the facilities in the pouring rain at 3:00 a.m. with a full bladder!
A bonus is the ability to shove all the superfluous "stuff" into the washroom during the day as an instant "tidy-up" !

Although AL will have a stand at the NEC they usually only have 2 or 3 caravans there.
