Towing Electrics

I have always had a slight hicup when connecting the Eriba to the car and oneside of my front lights on the Eriba does not come on but all others work. Then when the journey is underway it does come on, which I think is due to a connection issue and the jiggling about when towing 5 mins into the jounrey sorts it out and it works fine. On my last trip the collar on the cable came away leaving the pins/connections showing and I put it back in place and taped it up for the journey home which held OK and everything worked. I think it needs a new connection so would a mobile engineer be able to do this or does it need to be booked into a caravan outlet. Also any contacts near Cardiff wouldbe appreciated on recommendation.

I think you're most probably correct in believing that there's a lose connection somewhere. By the sound of it, it's a job that for whatever reason you don't want to set about sorting out for yourself but I can't really see any possible reason that the services of a caravan dealer or mobile engineer particularly need to get involved with as it's essentially a job that any qualified electrician should be able to sort out.

by the way.

Thanks for the reply deeps, its the plastic collar that twists to lock and hide all the pins that came away and I think the plastic needs to be a new socket.

Thanks for Bankfarm info. I hope this is not a silly question but I suppose I have to tow the caravan there to get it done or do you know if they call out?

Taffy, to be honest to rewire the plug is very easy, even Derek (Hampshireman) & myself could do it! And we are NOT blessed with diy skills! Either write down the colour of the wire goinb to each pin OR take a photo, personly I'd do both because I'm colour blind and dyslexic

It can be done by a good diy person as demonstrated here

Sand and sea trip

But if not happy any caravan service agent can do the job for a price.

Hob, thanks for the diagram and advice. I will probably do it myself as I have stripped down a Gaggia coffee maker and there are more wires in that than in the connection for the Eriba. So I will pick up a part and as soon as it dries up get on with it and the clean up and cover on as this damn rain is getting on my nerves. Came back in Dec from a trip away and it has not been clear enough to polish and clean up to get the winter cover on. We may all be buying Noahs Ark in a few weeks!
