Tow bar on VW T5. .?

I have a 2015 VW T5 Westfalia Joker campervan and shopping around for a tow bar and 13pin electric to be fitted. Nowing how complex modern cars are and reading that things like reversing sensors and brakes, fog lights etc can throw up problems with the cars computer I am concerned that fitter really knows what he is doing and fits for example the Westfalia wiring kit because a lot of tow bar company's tell me they just wire up to rear system and never had any problems. The difference in price between VW and some private company's can be as much as £500. VW quote approx £900 for a detachable tow bar inc electrics. My question is, has anybody with a T5 had any problems after having a tow bar fitted ? Or am I being paranoid. Paul.

For me if I'd paid out considerable £££££ then I would want peace of mind regarding warranty issues! So I would opt for a VW Westphalia towbar, we had and earlier T and that's what we had. Just my thought's of course

We had a VW T5 Bilbos camper in 2010. The Westphalia detachable towball that we had fitted was a good piece of kit but the VW dealers could not get the reversing sensors to operate correctly when the vehicle was in towing mode.

We had the westfalia detachable fitted with the proper VW wiring loom too, for £590 I recall. No probs at all. We actually had it organised by the VW converter who originally did our van. They probaby contracted a towbar specialist to do it, but as they had converted the van so professionally, they ran the wiring out of sight behind all the cupboards, as it has to go up to the front seat. VW quoted me £900 but said it would be extra to route all the wiring.
