Birds, stay away from my roof!

Ain't it amazing. Just as you've toiled away with step ladders, buckets and sponges and finished applying the Bobby Dazzler, the house martins arrive back. I could almost hear them twittering, 'We'll get your roof!' Got to get a roof cover. I've followed a previous thread but are there any further pros and cons?

I should have thought with your Magpie'ing skills you should be able to keep them off

However, if that fails, how about this that we saw on the roof of a caravan in Cornwall a couple of years ago?

I pass a caravan parked up with a flag pole that has a bird of prey (unknown) windsock thingy. Don't know if it works but it looks very realistic hovering around.

I don't want to frighten them, away! I Just want to keep my clean roof clean. The caravan is not directly under the nest but is under the flight path. The blackbirds tend to chuck nasty bits of moss down as well! So I've just ordered a Maypole top cover. I note that it is waterproof rather than breathable like the AL winter cover and I wondered if anyone had encountered any problems with similar, e.g. scratches from elastics etc.

I have a maypole roof cover, you just have to be careful of the elastic touching the Windows, I thought it would be a good idea to use pipe insulation but this just captured the grit then slightly scratched the window with the wind. I got the scratches out using Brasso waddling. I will be using it again on my new van as it also stop the UV rays making the roof going chalky..

Thank you. We wondered about the elastic scratching and OH suggested the pipe insulation. Don't want to have to resort to Brasso! I guess we have to arrange the elastics so they miss the windows. Seems a good idea otherwise.
