Removing old rubber & re-fitting with new rubber on our Eriba Triton 410 fixed window. Well after phoning two local caravan repair companies and one car window fitting company, we have had to undertake fitting our fixed eriba window ourselves.
How any of the above companies can call themselves professionals beggars beliefs they are certainly missing out on business. Anyway we began by removing the old window, pulling the old cracked rubber away and with the use of an old butter knife to cut away the mastic holding it in, we soon had it out approx 10 mins, now if only it went in so easy lol.
This was definitely one of those jobs with a step learning curve, we began the refitting by putting the new rubber into the now open gap, but soon realised this was wrong, and that we needed to fit the rubber to the window first, and then put the whole thing into the gap, now by having to do this all three of us were now covered I.e. Fingers arms etc in mastic which had started to ooze out of the rubber that we had had to remove again. The few instructions that we had managed to obtain off the internet did not mention anything about the amount of bad language needed to fit this. However after losing all fingernails some skin, nearly one daughter and a 32 year marriage we had got it in yippee! But now to fit the locking strip Ahhhhh!. We sat down and had a well deserved cup of tea, feeling really pleased with ourselves, and thinking how difficult could a simple locking strip be? After all we have a special tool lol, it turned out that the tool would be great for any other job other than the one it was meant for, and we was just far better using up the remainder of what was left of our fingernails and some more bad language, it is all in and the job looks great, and there is a little smugness and feeling good to have done something that the professionals would not undertake. Mind you the lovely Lady from Jandi was great and gave us a tip, to leave the locking strip hanging out for a day or two before cutting and fitting the last bit, it allows it to fit in better, otherwise it could shrink back and leave a gap.
Thanks Jandi.

Well done, you saved yourself a fortune, I got the same response when I asked caravan engineers to replace mine. They wanted to do the easy opening windows for £500.. and told me the fixed windows were to hard.. So I did all 4 windows myself for less than £200..... and a I filled up a swear box.

Top tip, cut your locking strips off at a slight chamfer and you will get a neat edge and no gap

When I go on holiday I like to pop my top!

Wow, well done you, so are the opening windows easier? Though I'm not sure I'd be up for it, but I guess when you look at the savings it's well worth it.
