been out getting quotes for tow bar fitting today for my VW Touran. VW will be £875 local caravan dealer is £450. The worry I have is I have a rear parking sensor and also seen some threads about software upgrades required. Local dealer basically said get removable so it does not interfere with sensor. After some advice on this as I have not had a tow bar before and do not want to muck my car up..

Try Westfalia towbar fitters at Bristol. They are professionals and know VW inside out. You will need a dedicated wiring kit which also turns off the sensors and fog light when connected to van. They fitted a removable tow bar with 13 pin electrics to my VW for about £650. Paul.forgot to say they do not do jobs at home only at their workshop.

Most of the Tow bars fitting offer a electrics pack so it should be the same as a dealer. Best to have a chat and ask your fitters about your concerns.

Main dealers (and perhaps even your Caravan dealer) will often use a specialist and sub the job out, marking the cost up. My local fitter (Cambs) spends most of his working life doing that. I could recommend a couple of fitters local to me, but that won't help you in Lincolnshire. A Google search of 'tow bar fitter lincolnshire' throws up a number to choose from...

My chap has the letters MIMI, AMSOE, AMIRTE after his name, whether that's an indication of his qualities, I know not, but it might be a start!
