Flat!!

Of all places to have it happen, just as I was coming up at the Tollson the severn bridge! all the traffic was stopped at barriers so I could pull right across the lanes to get to hard shoulder and a very nice man came and put cones around me while I waited for a very nice man from he RAC to change the wheel.

So - what do I do, do you tow the Eriba to a tyre company and have them change it and fit the alloy back on after putting a new tyre on it? or is there some sort of call out service for caravans?

If only the 7 bridge web cam was on I would have been sitting there for 2 hrs waiting for breakdown to come to save me.

its best practise to get another tyre and get it balanced asap, if the eriba is towing ok with spare on keep running till get home and change there, or tow to the tyre place on route
(balancing stops various screws undoing )

it be a recovery should the other tyre deflate

you could call the service back to change wheel, if you think the spare is not road worthy,

sometimes these run flat tyres on cars cause the job to be put into recovery mode and the attending person assists you to the tyre place with right tyre and leaves you in their hands.

sometimes only get one call out per issue

its best to read the small print of your policy as some break down policy's only give you the phone call and call out with 10 miles recovery cover, then the person i.e you pays for the rest!!! it can be hefty bill..

some only cover caravan when attached to car
one of the clubs offer a service, to get you to your destination. then somewhere else.

it all depends on who attends to how much assistance you receive..

don't forget to torque the wheel studs and recheck

There are a lot of companies that offer mobile tyre services - I used to see them regularly in our shared work car park doing punctures or full 4 tyre replacement.

I'd suggest a few phone calls to tyre suppliers in the area will solve that question for you - even folks like Kwik-Fit. All tyre fitters will torque to the correct setting especially if you can tell them what it should be. If the other tyre is a bit worn it's worth getting that re-balanced at the same time as balance does change as a tyre wears and it will make sure the wine doesn't get shaken too much.

Since my flat saga I have inspected my tyre and there is some indication of rub and I can see the steel thread, This may have been due to running a little distance and pulling over to the hard shoulder on flat but until I get a tyre fitter out won't know the cause yet although I have found a mobile fitter that I can call when I am not in work. I do a lot of motorway driving weekend breaks to events and overnight stays so a tyre failing in some instances would be a disaster as I travel with more than one dog.

I have been looking into tyre bands and run flats for my own piece of mind to know I could get to somewhere safe I am considering getting them fitted. Any one else done similar and opinions on the options.
