Hi there, I joined the forum back in March when we ordered a 320 from Automotive Leisure. The caravan is due for pick up next week - hopefully. Insurance will probably be sorted out via one of the comparison sites unless anyone on EF has a stunning recommendation? However the issue that cannot be sorted on the good old interwebby thing is which club to join if indeed to join a club at all? Any thoughts please on CC v C&CC or indeed any club I may not have heard of? As newcomers to caravanning we plan to tour home and Europe as well as use the Eriba for weekend festivals.
Over the past months your posts have informed and entertained me during the long waiting period and I would like to thank one and all for keeping the excitement of Eriba ownership alive.

Hi David. We are with both the CC and the C&CC clubs but we rarely use either of them for their campsites.
We think that if we were to drop one of them then it would have to be the C&CC for although their campsites are, in our opinion, more friendly, we would have to stick with the CC. as they do what we think is a top rate insurance for travelling abroad, ie. Red Pennant.
Red Pennant is not cheap but from our point of view it offers the best cover for personal insurance and cover for the Eriba and its towing vehicle when abroad.
There are of course, other points of view which we imagine, will follow.

I agree with Randa regarding Red Pennant insurance and that's the main reason we too continue to be members of CC.
CC sites can be difficult to use as there is a tendency for some members to pre-book pitches in January and as the sites (so far as I'm aware) don't keep any pitches available for tourers who 'just turn up on spec', getting a pitch particularly at a popular site at a weekend (eg Rowntree Park, York) can be almost impossible. Having said that, we had a ride around Rowntree Park on our bikes recently and were decidedly unimpressed.
The CC can be a bit rule-obsessed and while that leads to well-run sites, it can mean that you will be expected to park your caravan nose-in on the pitch which can be a problem if you don't have a mover fitted. We have never had a problem with this but some of our members have been upset by the attitude of some wardens.
Touring in France is much more relaxed, informal and substantially cheaper. If you are thinking of visiting the Continent, be sure to get an ACSI card before you go.

Caravan club for me, the standard of the sites are always top notch with excellent toilet facilities. Some sites can be a bit pedantic for continental vans but this is just a minor irritation. The EHUs are 15amps which is very generous compared to most sites. Also they have a break down service called Mayday which is designed for the car and caravan, if you breakdown they will take you to your destination and bring you back so that you don't miss your holiday.

We belong to both to gain access to the large range of CLs and CSs. They are the small (max 5) privately owned sites across the country that are listed in the clubs' handbooks. We have found some fabulous little places with excellent facilities.
We also appreciate the other benefits like Red Pennant and Mayday as mentioned.
Of course it is not necessary to belong to either 'club' and there are aspects of both which are less than satisfactory. There seem to be more and more small commercial sites providing a good service at competitive rates.

WE only in C&CC therefore can't judge on the other. Heard about their stuffy fussyiness but no experoence. Bothe clubs have their CLs and Css but when booking with either the site people welcome us on both sides.

We are with the CC Club, have been for nearly forty years. As has already been mentioned the Red Pennant insurance is truly magnificent we have had to use their services on two occasions and they were wonderful. Last year we blew a head gasket on our motorhome in Pamplona, one call to the club, and the van was fetched and taken to the garage to be fixed. They then asked what kind of accommodation we would like, hotel or a bungalow, in town, or in the country, but not to far out. We opted for the bungalow on a campsite. We were there for ten days. The van cost us over three thousand pounds to fix. We were expected to pay for the bungalow and then claim back the cost in this country. We explained that with the garage costs we were running out of money on our credit card and we still had to get home. The Caravan Club seemed completely unfazed by this and paid for our accommodation direct. We would most certainly not go abroad without them. The first time that we had to use them was just as good. Water pump broke in France one phone call again, breakdown van was with us within half an hour. Mechanic explained that as it was half past five it was to late to do much but that he would be back in the morning at half past eight, we were already parked in a campsite. Next morning he was back with a five gallon container of water filled up the van and duly drove off to his garage after telling us how to get there. Three o/c in the afternoon the van was fixed we paid for it and were on our way. Arrived back home submitted our claim and were paid out after about five days. Beat that for service, and lovely people to deal with.

Just received a flyer from the C&CC seems they do an over 60s 25% off high season discount on site fees.

I am in both. CC for Mayday but not at all for their sites. Their booking system is archaic and regimental approach is irritating. C&CC for their friendly sites and approach and their over 60s discount is well worth having.
