A very bad decision

Hello all, I recently had my 2008 Eriba Troll 550gt repaired and one of the items replaced was the silver front left hand trim that has the access hole to the steadies mechanism, I was told that they could not source a colour coded replacement so Hymer supplied a black coated trim, they then had to try and colour match this trim to the originals, which to be fair they did quite well. Whilst travelling in North Devon there was a lot of road resurfacing taking place meaning chippings flying everywhere. When we got home I was horrified how much damage had been done to the painted trim, yet the original trim was perfect. I contacted Jandi to see if he could supply a pair of colour coded trims to replace both of mine for a perfect match on my van, and the answer was that they no longer supply colour coded trims but black painted replacements. I think that in such a vulnerable area on the van the colour coded items are a must, it is such a poor decision by Hymer to go down the cheaper "primed" route. This also effects the wheel arch trims as I had one of these replaced and the colour match was not as good. I will now contact AL to see if they can source a pair of front pre coloured trims for me. I think that Hymer have made a very poor decision in respect of older Eriba owners. Brian.

Whoever "they" are they presumably have a record of the paint code they used so all is not lost, whoever they were presumably they applied some coats of lacquer after painting?

I recently had a whole new front end on my car which was colour matched to the car makers paint code I would be somewhat upset if the same happened to the car.

It might be worth having a talk to whoever did the respray about that, and asking why their paint job was not as resilient.

Thanks for the reply hob but I would never take my van back to the repairers as there were a lot of issues that were never resolved. It may sound daft but I would rather sort it myself than go back to "them" Regards Brian.

Enquired at AL for replacement trims and they say none in stock so can't guarantee colour codeddirect from Hymer, and guess how much they want for 2 bits of plastic? Well I will tell you they want £357.92 for 2 bits of plastic?????????? I now think my Eriba is worth somewhere in the region of £47,000 to £50,000.
I might forget the silver finish and cover both trims in the finest black truffle instead, and still be in pocket. Brian.
