We have a Sony TV but the Humax is dead now. We wtill want to record programmes which the Humax was ideal for. Apart from buying a new Humax, is there another divice we can record with?

Yes, there is. One of these. TalkTalk give them away to people who sign up for TV/broadband packages. If those people don't need the box, they end up on eBay.

It uses YouView, which is a proprietary version of the ubiquitous Freeview, but does all the same things. It's HD (High Definition) as well as being able to record in the same way as your Humax.

I bought one of the simpler (non-recording) DN360T versions off eBay to use in the van. I got it for fourteen quid including postage, and it had never been used.

It's ace.

They are small (not much bigger than a paperback), light and easy to set up. Connect your aerial to the back, one HDMI cable from box to telly (it'll come with that cable), plug the adaptor in to the wall and turn it on. It'll do a full channel search automatically and present you with a list of everything available and a nice, easy to use interface.

Corking.
