Hi. I'm Surfingpiglet. Call me SP.
I bought a 1994 Eriba Tritan 4 yrs ago after admiring from afar. Reupholstered and new curtains now, Kath Kitson style, as it was a plain dull grey before and fitted out to match over next few months. However due to own health issues & elderly parent responsibilities - both now deceased - I havent even got it on the road yet. Keen to do so but confidence lacking as I've never towed. Hope to get 'on the road' next Sproing. Look forward to being part of a group so I can ask for advice being a novice. Being a female now the wrong side of 60 I need to get on with it. SP

Hi and a big Welcome .

My advice on towing is that it's like most things...confidence will grow with experience.

To start I would try and get someone who is experienced to go out on the first journey with you.
Pick a quiet day of the week and or time of day.
Plan a short journey and if possible a large car park where you can turn around without reversing.

Many years ago when I started out I took some traffic cones to a supermarket car park that was closed on Sundays and then practiced my reversing.

Finally good luck and bear in mind that '60' is the new '40' !

Towing, you will soon get used to it

Get a copy of Mr A C's wonderful Pre-departure Checklist from the first post in this topic

Pre-departure Checklist click here

Right click on the attachment and select "save as" (or similar) and select where to put it on your computer

Alter it if needed and print it then every time you tow go through the list first

SP no worries about towing you will get used to it. If a CC or C7CC member you can go on one of their courses which they run on a regular basis. You may, if your budget runs to it invest in a mover which makes life so much easier when pitching/hitching up.

If you are worried about towing, take a course with the CC and that will give you confidence and experience. I went on a hour tutorial at the NEC show, and then bought my Eriba and have never looked back, well only in the wing mirrors. I am also Female and there are a few of us about that tow, men are not all the ones that can have fun!
Get out there and enjoy it.

We got our Triton a year ago and, like you, I re-did the inside as it was rather frightning! What inspired us to get her was meeting a very elderly English lady, on her own with her Eriba. I remember she had the door shelves fulll of booze LOL She had movers and said she had no trouble managing on her own at all. You'll love the freedom!

Go for it, you will find it easier than you think. Normally Neil tows and I take the odd day towing (on the continent). This weekend though for only the second time I towed the Eriba totally on my own as Neil had to take a work van to the site we were staying at in case he was called out. Thankfully he wasn't so had a good weekend. Can I say this, what the heck, think it was actually easier towing without the co-driver offering "helpful" advice.

Just gone from a Puck (hardly knew it was there) to a Triton. No real problems, except trying to get the nose-weight up enough (430GT). Hope to meet up with you next year.
