Dropping the pop top.....

When we bought our Troll from AL a couple of years ago Cameron made a point of telling us that we should always drop the rear of the roof first.... Indeed it mentions this in the user manual....,,,

Does anyone on the forum know the reason for this..?

Also when putting the roof up should the front or rear be lifted first or does it not matter........

Something ghastly must have happened between 2004 and 2012 because the 2004 manual doesn't mention anything about closing one end before the other.

Maybe it's something to do with the change of roof profile after 2009.

Whatever it was that prompted the dire warnings certainly hasn't happened to ours (a 2008 Troll), and I doubt I've lowered the same end - whichever one it was - twice in succession since we've had it.

Yes the same instructions are given in our 2016 Troll and earlier 2013 Triton.

The redesigned roof should be front up first and down last. I presume it is the different profile that sticks out further at the front than the older roofs and would tend to press on the fixed roof if the back were lifted first? Not going to try it, though!

Hi, the reason is that the front is longer and will dig in if the rear is lifted first. The profile changed on later models

I thought that the roof profile on the newer vans would be the reason for it......

As I said,,,,, The instructions in the owners handbook is to always drop the rear of the roof first but doesn't give the reasons why.... I always like to know why I am having to do something in a certain way......

Thanks Guy's for your replies and confirming the reason for me...
