From Puck L to a Triton
Well, I've gone and done it!
Courtesy of Robin (PooleDweller) And AL I had the free tickets to the Caravan and Camping Show and went up there on Friday.
As some of you may know I have been contemplating changing the Puck for a Triton, I have found the lack of a loo rather inconvenient and it limits where I can camp, lots of CL/CS are off limits. Due to SWMBOs work commitments I travel a lot on my own and have found manoeuvreing the Puck on pitch rather difficult, fitting a mover to the Puck is rather expensive, £1200+ , and I understand, rather problematical.
So, we went to the AL stand and got chatting with Cameron, and on the stand they had a New Triton 420 and a Puck L very, similar to ours so we were able to compare them side by side and it confirmed my thoughts on the change, I had to have the Triton! But not a new one unfortunately! AL had a 2004 420 with mover awaiting preparation so we agreed a deal on very good terms with the proviso that if I wasn't happy with the "new" 'van I could refuse it.
So I am off to Scotland then Keilder in a couple of weeks so will divert via Poole to pick up the new 'van then a couple of weeks to give it a proper try out then back home, then after a week or so back to Poole for the Spring meet so I shall be able to report any issues to AL, not that I expect any if my Puck L is anything to go by!
Having said all that, I have thoroughly enjoyed our time with the Puck, we have travelled through Spain and Portugal and I have spent quite a number of nights in her in the UK, We shall be sorry to see her go 😢

So am I Robin 😀.
Forgot to say, she's got the 1200kg axle as well so all those goodies recommended by forum members can now be accommodated in the 'van rather than the Landie, i.e. Remoska, Induction Hob, Coffee maker etc...I'll have to make sure I don't get too carried away 👍

Hi Chris,
No, afraid I don't, as you probably know there are 1000 and 1200 kg versions, there is such a difference I think it must be a different axle rather than, like the Puck L where the upgrade from 790 to 850 kg seems to be a paper exercise by Hymer with the same axle. Perhaps another Triton owner has to upgraded from 1000 to 1200kg could advise?

As mentioned I think its a factory upgrade to a stronger axle that could be added to the spec when ordering a new van.
I think 1200Kg are standard on the newer vans?

I think it depends on the year of your van. with the later ones, it is a paper exercise.
If you crawl under your van, there should be an axle label with a safe load rating. If it states 1300 or 1350kg, then you can apply for an uprated mtplm label.
Do a search on this site for mtplm upgrade and you will find out all you need to know.

As a rough rule, if the wheel is a 4 stud the axle is 1000kg and you cannot apply for an upgrade plate.
If the wheel is a 5 stud then the axle is capable of 1200kg, no matter what the plate next to the door says it is rated at, so you could apply for an upgrade plate.

Well, picked her up from AL yesterday. Very pleased, had a few extras I was unaware of - the Motor Moover is an automatic one and she has blown air heating and ventilation. There is also Safari Room included, however having watched videos of one being erected on you tube I don't know how much use it will get! But, there were also some Lillypad Leisure wind blockers hiding in one of the lockers, these look a lot easier and quicker to deploy and are very light so these will get some use. I spent today loading and arranging for my trip away next week, still more to do so hopefully the weather holds.
One question one of you Tritoneers my be able to answer....inside looking to the front of the 'van, above the kitchen there is a large locker, this extends inside round in front of the loo, on the right there is what appears to be, a very large, inaccessible void. Has anyone opened this up? Looks to be a very usable wasted space.

In the new vans like ours it is opened up at eye level in the toilet. Just a square opening with storage inside to the right. This is where we keep loo rolls, wet wipes and the like, light stuff that does not harm if it falls out going over bumps.

Interesting, there is a locker at eye level in my toilet above the loo but it has got a door and doesn't go all the way forward. But forward of this locker can be accessed from the kitchen locker, strange that they let you get into this space but closed off the space to the right.
