Euro Exchange Rate

Probably like many others on here, we are soon to embark on our annual European trip with the Eriba.
Does anyone have a Crystal Ball or any idea which way the Pound is going to go against the Euro in the immediate future? We need to buy some Euros soon and note that at the moment they are on a par with 2013 rates of exchange.

The most sensible advice I have heard is buy to 1/2 of what you need know and the other 1/2 just before you leave.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business/marke...welve_month.stm will show you how it has moved over the last 12 months. Big drop post referendum, which we are all aware of, then a period of fluctuation between 1.20 and 1.10 (roughly) Today it's pretty much right in the middle of that range. I doubt whether there will be much change in that *unless* Marie Le Pen wins the French Presidential vote which would put the euro under pressure (as might one or two other European elections to be honest). Buy today, buy tomorrow, buy on a Thursday. I doubt whether its going to make a great deal of difference..
But there again, if I knew what was going to happen in the currency markets, I wouldn't be holidaying in a 15 year old Eriba caravan!

We live in France and if we need to make a large purchase or for holiday expenses, fuel, site fee's, ice creams for Frantome ?? we use our Nationwide UK credit card, this gives the best exchange rate and no charges and then pay from our UK bank

A short section from the article here - http://www.poundsterlingforecast.com/
With the UK’s future still massively uncertain owing to the problems caused by what is happening with Article 50 and still no formal date announced this is likely to continue to cause problems for Sterling in the short term.
Therefore, if you’re buying Euros it may be worth organising this in the near future before the uncertainty of what may happen once Article 50 is formally triggered.

We were in Spain a few weeks ago, using our Halifax Credit Cards, ones that don't charge for foreign use, we were getting just over €1.17 to the pound on purchases. I used my First Direct debit card for cash and was getting €1.169 but, of course, there were fees!
We travel a lot to Spain and never bother to buy in advance, it's a lottery I'm afraid, you may win, you may lose.
When using Sterling cards abroad you should always ensure that you are charged the Euro price as any Sterling price they offer is likely to be at a very unfavourable rate.
