Pre or post 2009 for awning fit

Something that comes up from time to time ........ and why is it relevant?

Sometime during the year 2009 Eriba did a fairly major makeover to the design of the touring range I think I have seen some of both new and old for that year.

So why is this relevant I hear you ask, well one of the changes involved an increase in height of the body of the van and a similar lowering of the roof profile.

The difference in body height increased the awning rail height by somewhere around 6 cm or 2 1\2 inches (approx) not a huge amount but enough to make awning fitting and pegging down a problem if you have the wrong one for the type you have.

the old type (pre 2009)

Note the narrow gap between window top and awning rail and the shape of the top moulding.

the new type (borrowed from Doms website)

Note the different roof profile and the larger distance between window tops and awning rail which gives some idea of how much higher the awning rail is.

Obviously there are lots of other design differences but the rail height change is the one that causes problems when looking for an awning or trying to use your old awning on a new van.

Great minds think alike Nev.

While you were preparing this thread I was working on something similar.

With the help of a Frantone pic of his pre 2009 Triton and a photo on Al's website of a 2015 Triton, you can see the difference :-

Whether the cut off was 2009 or 2010 all depends on Hymer's stock levels. Certainly when they closed the French factory at Cernay in 2010, the last Eribas off the line were new models :- Last Days at Cernay.

However, in keeping with all Eriba design changes, there is a very 'fluffy' cut off line.

This is very interesting. Thank you for posting this and making it so clear. In relation to the great Kampa awning debate going on at the moment it clearly shows perhaps why some awnings fit and others don't fit so well. It would account for the skirt round the base of this air awning being on the short side with my 2014 Triton.

Several things prompted the writing of this topic, as you say the great Kampa awning debate, others included awnings for sale with no mention of which height of van they fit.
Topics on "which awning fits my Eriba" and today will my old awning fit another Eriba?

So I thought time for a bit of clarification.

Nev, just add a little bit more info. The German vans made in Bad waldsee date from 2012, the main modification to pick the German made vans out is the fully galvanised chassis.
My 2012 Familia had a BPW chassis and my 2015 has an Alko, either way they will be fully galvanised.

Hymer Spec from the website:
Fully galvanised AL-KO tubular frame chassis with trailing arm axle and fully galvanised axle beam
