Hi Colin. Managed to purchase a Thule 970 from decathlon for £50.00 it arrived yesterday. Got to say it looks a nice bit of kit. Left email address when it was showing nil stock to notify me when available. Did they ? no. Happened to check website last week to see it was available again.
Like the clamps on the bars for securing the bike that adjust to clamp frame or seat post.
Will mount with arms positioned to the locker which should keep the bike away from car.
Thanks for the heads up

Mike

I've just fitted the towball mounting bracket ( courtesy of gattim ) to my 2004 Triton. I may have a problem, I have fitted it with the towball mounted to the rear of the tow-hitch. I test fitted an Alko type towball to the bracket and found that it fouls the gas locker door which cannot be opened with the ball in place though it does clear the mounting plate , just. I am trying to source one of the old style tow balls with a short neck to see if that works but no luck so far.

If I can't find one I shall try reversing the bracket as per Eribanut, this will obviously clear the gas locker door but will have to ensure it doesn't hit the Land Rover whilst turning and reverse manoeuvring.

Btw, I think later Tritons would be ok re the gas locker door clearance as they appear to have a longer drawbar.

I managed to pinch the towball off my sons Land Rover, one of the older short neck types, and try it on the bracket and it clears, by about a mm! So now looking out for a suitable rack.
