Mike,
we have considered the site a few times but never made it as we could only do peak times. It is on our list of sites to visit. It is a lovely spot and the site gets good reviews. It has an amazing view up to the chateau/castle whilst the river runs past offering further views. It is a favourite spot for the tourist boats and canoes to go past. Down side is main road location. It is heaving in the height of summer, but you will miss this.
We are heading further west to http://www.leportdelimeuil.com/en/ which may meet your requirements.

Sarlat itself was a horrid bottleneck, but the new[ish] bypass and improved roundabout system have greatly improved matters as through traffic no longer has to go through the town. I've seen cars 'boiling over' there!

Very interesting area to visit, check attractions are in fact open, French tourism seems to cater mainly for the July-Sept crowds.
