Fridge Vent Covers - does anyone use them?

Our MH came with a couple of covers for the Dometic Fridge vents that you are supposed to fit when temp drops below 10C - so that's most nights then....!
We did use them on a few occasions and when washing the van

They are not supplied with the Eriba, so has anyone gone out and got some LS100/200 covers???? I can see they're around £13 a pair.

I can see they're of use when cleaning the van to keep excess water out but do folks use them apart from that?

Never used them, always take my slatted vents off when I wash the van and clean inside, don't worry about a little water ingress.
Have never ventured away in the van when it's been that cold!

I think if I went away in very cold weather I might invest in them, but to put on when washing the van would not cross my mind. I drop of water working its way in there should not be a problem, if so I would have to stop driving when it rains.

Yes we use them as we caravan all year round. The biggest benefit is cutting down the draughts in winter

Don't play draughts as they cause a chill on my chess.

I am beginning to think that one needs to have a course in sarcasm to post on the forum ? I can't think why !!!

We were once on a site in the Dordogne in very hot weather when a British-owned Puck arrived and pitched opposite. In a spirit of bonhomie I went over and offered them an ice cold beer each, very much to their amazement as it turned out as according to them, their fridge barely cooled its contents even at the highest settings on gas or electricity.

It was then that I noticed that they still had their vent covers on. "Oh, we didn't know they came off," was their reply when I told them that they were supposed to be removed when the weather was warm.

To their credit, next day they returned the compliment with a couple of ice cold bottles for us to share together with their profuse thanks.

Doesn't one model of Puck have the fridge vents on the front in a position where rain is driven into the vents during towing unless the covers are fitted?

It's a bit like the removable grill covers provided with Citroen 2CVs that were designed to boost the heater in very cold weather. It used to be a common sight to see them fitted all year round.

We had the cover on our PuckL which we kept on for travelling and removed on site. The Triton didn't come with any so now we don't bother, should we?

The only other advantage we got from them was that when the van was parked I always fitted them to stop spiders and other bugs getting in as the fridge side was/is next to a big beech hedge. However the vents on the Triton seem to have a nice mesh fitted that seems to do the job. Maybe next year..........

When I had the Puck I would use the cover when travelling as the vent is at the front, otherwise rain would get forced in. The Puck wasn't wired up to use the car to keep the fridge cool so it didn't matter. With my Familia I use the covers when washing the van or when it's layed up for winter, I don't do hard core winter camping but I have been had some cold spells late October and I have used the vents.

A bit worried now...we don't do anything to this grill??!!...and now in our third year!
On the picture, the item with the word "Dometic" on and the little cover on the right hand side...is this what we are meant to remove?? Not sure if we have the 'blanking' type plate...gonna have to check tomorrow as we are away for a few days with the van to Shaftesbury in Dorset....and the weather is meant to be scorchio...................

Don't worry, the covers we are talking about are winter covers like these

You don't need to do anything (except enjoy Shaftesbury, of course)
