Hi , I am considering towing a Troll 540 GT with one of these. Tow limit is 1200 so should be ok, if performance not great. Does anyone have any experience?

Best wishes,

Andrew.

Hi Andrew. I guess you've tried to match your car on this website http://www.towcar.info/ or something similar?

Bear in mind that the Eriba you're looking at is probably 1200 kgs loaded so is no lightweight. It's always better to go for an overpowered car so that you've got the extra oomph in case of emergency.

Hi if you go to whatcar.com and put in a search for this vehicle, you will get all the independent reviews.

Not something I would do. tow up to a cars tow limit, my 1.8l petrol powered tow car has a 1400Kg tow limit and on hills in Derbyshire a couple of weeks ago it struggled a bit needing 3rd or even 2nd gear to get it going up the steeper hills and I was towing a 1000Kg Triton.

I have a 1.6l diesel focus which has a tow capacity of 1200kg and the max weight of our 430 being 1200kgs so at the tow limit, although still at 85% of kerb weight.

Although it tows, it really struggles on hills, so I only tend to use this to collect from storage then use my partners 4x4 diesel Yeti which can tow 2200kg and the difference is massive. You don't even know you have anything on the back and hills are no longer an issue.

We have a simple petrol mégane and it pulls our Triton. Husband says he forgets she's behind. We haven't experienced mountains yet, though!

I have a 2.0L S Max with a Kerbweight of 1,850 / MTPLM of 1,480 and tow a Troll 530GT. After my first drive I found it a great combination and I wouldn't want to drop my kerbweight down to much further unless I really had to. I haven't weighed my Troll all in but wouldn't be surprised if it was close to 1,300 what with attached awning, motormover, added options plus normal holiday kit. I would think that a 1litre C Max might struggle and may not be as stable as it should. This is a definite tow car match exercise before taking the plunge

I have used a Cmax 2.0l petrol auto pulling a Triton an edit was great. I have also used a Tourneo 1.5 120 diesel and that is better than the max!
