Tow bar Height
I have a 4x4 Skoda Yeti which tows nose up? Has anyone else got this problem and how can I get it to tow level or slightly nose down as recommended? My Yeti has a max nose weight of 80Kg and I tow at around 60 Kg. It would appear that the factory fit Westfalia tow bar cannot be altered.
Any ideas gratefully received.

Dodo,
I also have a Yeti with the Westfalia tow bar.
Attached you will see my previous 2006 310 attached. Car looks fairly level, but it was fully loaded.
Attached you will also see my present 340 attached. Van was actually slightly nose up but towed very nicely.
My previous car was a VW Touran, also with Westfalia tow bar. This also towed intially nose up. After 5 or 6 years the suspension settled a little on the car and it was more neutral.

I suggested a drop plate to a tow bar fitter and he told me this was strictly illegal as would any other modification to my tow bar. I wondered if a Westfalia tow bar for another car might work but was told this was also illegal. The Yeti seems to settle so little under load that even loading it fully makes little difference. The tow bar sits 490mm off ground unladed and drops 5mm when hitched with a 68Kg nose weight. The Eriba has a tow hitch height of 350mm. The outfit tows well but looks odd. I wondered if lower springs would do the job but an expensive option.
Your tow ball is far too high according to the directive.
The EC Directive 94/20/EC (The standard that all towbars are designed to.) states that the tow ball height should be between 350 and 420mm from the ground with the vehicle in a 'laden' state.
The 'laden' state means when the vehicle is loaded with passengers and luggage. The weight used to place the car in its laden state is specified by the car manufacturer is the homologation documents for the vehicle.
This means that when the car is empty of passengers and luggage, the towball can often be much higher than 420mm.

Dobo,
I suspect you will have little luck with Skoda customer care for three reasons.
- Firstly "care" seems to be at odds with the services they cannot offer, if my experiences are the norm.
- Secondly you have not loaded the vehicle. only attached the caravan. The car loaded is over 500kg heavier than when empty.
- Your van is low. The centre point of my hitch on a 2017 Triton is 410mm on level concrete. What age is your van as I suspect the suspension has settled.
It is possible to load the car fully. The following two photographs show a loaded Yeti and what it was loaded with, in the interests of getting the caravan to sit a little more level. Some was actually loaded in the van.
