I'm looking into buying a solar panel and am currently considering a standalone unit, for a number of reasons
A We will use sites withEHU for most trips
B The intention is that the Triton will over winter under cover
C unnecessary weight if EHU is available
D Avoids having having to drill the roof
I appreciate a unit that isn't permanently fixed is less secure

Any comments?

I have been very happy with my 60W folding panel for the last 2 years. All lights have been converted to LED. Couple of hours TV per night if required. Still plenty left in our 110AH battery after a week to power the motor mover.
I believe I bought the panel from Photonics Universe or something like that.

Haven't used EHU in all that time :)

DSC03421.JPG - Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)I ran a 2.5mm cable from the leisure battery under the floor to the front of the van, terminating in to a matching electrical socket.
The panel is secured to the caravan chassis with a 2 m chain which generally allows me to align the panel for maximum effect during the day. Generally site it at due south if we are out for the day, otherwise move it about a bit during the day. Far more efficient than a fixed roof panel.
