2nd hand cover... is it worth it?

Just about to buy a 2nd hand Protec cover but just noticed response to a post on FB regarding older covers breaking down and tearing after a few years, is it worth me buying one which is likely to do this? Or shall I just buy new? Just feel it might be false economy?
Advice appreciated.

Our Protec cover is now 7 years old and although it still appears to do the job once on the van, we now have to be a little more careful when fitting it as the fabric has become a little less robust. The separate tow hitch cover made of the same material and supplied at the same time, has long gone.

Thanks for that, still a bit apprehensive, but think I will go and look at it difficult to check it though when it's not on the van 🤔

Ours 2nd hand Eriba cover was bought privately and it's not even designed for the Eriba Puck but it does the job. No breakdown of material.

We bought a generic cover from a well known towsure company which cost a fraction of the price of specialised covers in breathable material and so long as you not worried about the zip access to the door (ours is baggy enough once the straps are released to enable me to get underneath and open door) then this may be the way to go .

Our Protec is now nearly seven years old, still going strong, but beginning to get slightly tatty. I remember when we put it away this year I said I'd stick a patch on one area which is about to hole before we use it again. They don't get as much handling as the equivalent quality car covers, as if you're anything like us they go on in the autumn and stay on until the spring, rather than being taken off regularly as with car covers. There's probably another year or maybe two in it I'd say. If you're planning to keep the van long term I'd say go for a new one, if you're likely to change/upgrade it after a few years maybe go for a good second hand one.
