Satellite use in France

On a subject that divides owners, using a tv, and in this case in France.
When away for a few weeks, it will rain, and at this time of year it gets on the "cool" side in the awning, let alone sitting outside post 20:30. so we carry a small Multimo satelite dish and Avtex tv with built in satelite tuner.
So how south can you go and still get tv with a 60cm equivalent dish?
In the Loire, near Amboise, no problem, all tuned in a couple of minutes.
In the Dordogne, near Domme, south of Sarlat, on the edge, most usual channels available but some break-up.
Further south, forget it, take more books.

An alternative for chilly evenings in the van is Netflix. Excellent value and if you don't have wifi in the van, you can download some films in the wifi zone for watching later.

We haven't got a satellite dish and don't want one. The times we are stuck indoors, especially abroad, we take a little gadget our Gadget mad son-in-law lends us, loaded with a lot of films he thinks we would like. It wasn't bad the last 2 weeks, but Jackie and The Girl on the Train were bland for us.

Back to reading books. Reception gone, told could be due to atmospherics and I had been lucky to get anything this far down with such a tiny dish.
A nice lady opposite in a motorhome has been away for months and has been picking everything up even south of Barcelona with a 90cm self seeking dish. She was in her element as she was getting her regular fix of radio 4 and some "gameshow"about strictly dancing.
Mrs eribaMotters is jealous.

We've got a 60mm dish and get good reception as far down south as say Macon. Any further south it's tune in to the German channels where at least you get Sky news which keeps you updated. Boxed sets can ne useful and a second vote here for Netflix. There's also a case for 'forget the tv.....you're on holiday '

Derek,
we have for some years taken a tv/dvd with us in the summer, and a handful of dvds. As we have always been high season in the summer, when evenings are bright and campsites busy we have always returned with the dvds unviewed.
We can now get away out of season and with evenings getting dark and cool before 8pm it is nice to seek a little warmth indoors and catch up on the news or keep up to date with a favourite series. The books also obviously get a hammering and this year we were even running swaps with our "next door neighbours" on sites.
It looks like I might get an auto seeking Avtex Snipe as we are starting getting away more.
My Multimo has been an excellent introduction to satellite tv and I will put this up for sale if/when I can source a Snipe at a price that does not hurt.

Didn't mean to sound authoritative ......it's whatever floats your boat! With nights drawing in it's good to have something to do or watch if out and about in your beloved in the evenings. So go for it!
