Can you get "run-flat" tyres to fit an Eriba?

Reading the thread on Spare Tyre started by EribaNovice I was wondering if you could get "run-flat" wheels/tyres to fit Eriba's. and if you can how many Eriba Forum people use them?

Our Troll has a spare wheel in a carrier underneath the rear of the van but perhaps for those who don't have this the run flat "thingys" might be an option. As usual i am coming from a position of complete ignorance as I have no experience of these, how effective they might be or indeed how expensive they might be to have fitted!!!!!!!!!!!! MikeT

You can get the Tyron run flat product, it basically stops the tyre coming off the rim in a blow out. They need a special key when changing a tyre. You will still need to change the wheel for the spare. I never heard of a caravan run flat like they use on a car, I used to have Dunlop Denovs on my old mini many years ago, the rubber was very thick and they constantly had slow punctures..

Mike,
I don't think it would be a good idea. The suspension on our vans is three fold. The rubber torsion bar axle, a pair of shock absorbers and flexible side walls of the tyres all add something. Run flats are low profile with a far stiffer side wall and so you would lose some of that suspension.
New wheels at considerable cost would also be needed.

I have Tyron bands fitted but they are not a substitute for a spare.

Thanks PopTop320. Your video link has led to a Caravan Times You Tube video that answers all my questions.

They seem to be quite expensive ( about £1750 a wheel fitted) but seem a good idea.I suppose if you put £300 against the cost of your Eriba being wrecked it isn't out & out.

I sounds like you will still need your spare wheel as if one blew they seem to be designed to only get you to the next safe space. I suppose like anything you weigh up the risk and cost. MikeT

Thanks Colin - I didn't think about that.
Cheers Mike
